About this listen
Crusoe and Friday share in a variety of adventures, including a fierce battle with cannibals that culminates in the heroes recapturing a mutinous ship and returning to England.
Based partly on the real-life experiences of Scottish sailor Alexander Selkirk, Defoe's novel of human endurance in an exotic, faraway land exerts a timeless appeal and has taken its rightful place among the great works of Western civilization.

Just ok
Story was meh, almost boring at times. Too preachy. Main character was not very endearing.

Great narrator for a good story
I had heard that this was a great classic of English literature, and funnily enough was quite influential in economics where I first heard of it from. Crusoe and Friday frequent the first chapter of many economics textbooks after all. The narrator was immaculate, but the story was not as gripping as I had hoped. The setting and period is great and offers a fascinating insight into the evolving views of religion at the time. I disagree with another reviewer who said half the book was about religion. It is merely sprinkled in as the castaway reflects on trying to be grateful for his lot and not resentful despite the inglorious fate he has suffered. Not my favourite book but it was overall good and I have no resounding complaints. However I would never recommend it before something like the Hobbit or Don Quixote.
