Publisher's Summary
The New York Times best-selling memoir that inspired the film October Sky, Rocket Boys is a uniquely American memoir - a powerful, luminous story of coming of age at the dawn of the 1960s, of a mother's love and a father's fears, of a group of young men who dreamed of launching rockets into outer space... and who made those dreams come true. Nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award, Homer Hickam's lush, lyrical memoir is a marvelously entertaining chronicle of triumph.

Great memoir of the early days of a rocket scientist
Delightful. Almost flowed like fiction, but it is a true timeline of a young boy who was fascinated with rockets and went on to join NASA. Enjoyed it so much that I’ve bought the rest of his biographical works and am about to dig in. Oh, and he loves cats.

Heartwarming and Inspiration
Growing up in a mining community I really related to this story. I saw the movie first and loved it but soon realized that the novel was superior in so many ways. I enjoy both but they are 2 different animals.
I read this book yearly. I love the story of family dysfunction and retribution. Sonny was the Underdog and he sailed to great heights. He believed in himself and his future. I love that narrative dearly. A gem of a book.
