About this listen

From subway to Broadway to happily ever after. Modern love in all its thrill, hilarity, and uncertainty has never been so compulsively enjoyable as in New York Times and number one international best-selling author Christina Lauren's (Beautiful Bastard, Dating You/Hating You) new romance.

Marriages of convenience are so...inconvenient.

Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a big-time musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway - until he admits his student visa has expired and he's in the country illegally.

Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realize that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

The narrator has not mastered an American accent

While one of the main characters is Irish, the main protagonist and main POV are both American, and unfortunately KC Sheridan is clearly Irish. This made the entire narration confusing, as I often wasn’t sure which character was meant to be speaking. It also took something away from the story, as Holland (the female protagonist) sounded like a young Dubliner instead of a New Yorker.

Delightful!

This book was a nice easy listen with a few unexpected twists that had me needing to know what happened next. Overall I think it’s a great story with amazing characters! But I mean what else do you expect from Christina Lauren... K.C. Sheridan’s accent was brilliant and made the story really come to life!

Easy flirty romance, not a lot of substance

If you’re looking for something light with a lot of romance you’ll likely enjoy this. I had trouble getting through it at the end as there were so many plot points that didn’t add up. The character development was lacking for the MC and especially the love interest - I felt I couldn’t fall in love with the characters because I didn’t feel I even knew them. The best part was the audio performance as she voices both an English accent and Irish accent flawlessly which helps to put some life into the characters.

Awful narrator. Annoying.

I really tried to listen to the novel but the narrator has a weird inflection in the middle of her sentences that really throws you off when you’re trying to get into the novel. I’m a big fan of Christina Lauren but I just wish that they had picked someone that didn’t have an annoying voice.
