Publisher's Summary
New York Times best seller!
One of the founders of The Lincoln Project, the best-selling author of Everything Trump Touches Dies is back with a guidebook for beating Trump’s tricks, traps, and tweets in 2020.
“If you believe America’s future depends on Donald Trump’s political machine being crushed at the polls next year, then Rick Wilson’s Running Against the Devil is a must-read.” (Joe Scarborough, MSNBC)
Donald Trump is exactly the disaster we feared for America. Hated by a majority of Americans, Trump’s administration is rocked by daily scandals, and he’s embarrassed us at home and abroad.
Trump can’t win in 2020, right?
Wrong. As 2016 proved, Trump can’t win, but the Democrats can sure as hell lose. Only one thing can save Trump, and that’s a Democratic candidate who runs the race Trump wants them to run instead of the campaign they must run to win in 2020.
Wilson combines decades of national political experience and insight in his take-no-prisoners analysis, hammering Trump’s destructive and dangerous first term in a case-by-case takedown of the worst president in history and describing the terrifying prospect of four more years of Trump.
Like no one else can, Wilson blows the lid off Trump’s 2020 Republican war machine, showing the exact strategies and tactics they’ll use against the Democratic nominee...and how the Democrats can avoid the catastrophe waiting for them if they fall into Trump’s trap.
Running Against the Devil is sharply funny, brutally honest, and infused with WIlson's biting commentary. It’s a vital indictment of Trump, a no-nonsense, no-holds-barred road map to saving America, and the guide to making Donald Trump a one-term president.
The stakes are too high to do anything less.
What the critics say
“Rick Wilson is one of the best political strategists of our times. He knows the calculus of how to win better than a mathematician. This book is going to give some old-school Democrats a little heartburn. But if we want to win in 2020, Wilson’s analysis is a full stop. Period. Read and get to work.” (Donna Brazile, former interim chair, Democratic National Committee)
“‘Florida Man Chooses Country over Party!’ It appears that the Democratic Party’s 2020 election briefing book has been written by a lifelong Republican strategist, and you’re looking at it.” (Brian Williams, MSNBC)
“No one understands the nature of Trumpism better than Rick Wilson. He also knows how the Democrats can blow this election. This may be a hard book for some of them to read, but it is a message they absolutely need to hear if they want to beat Donald Trump. In this passionate, witty, insightful, and often hilarious book, Wilson brings tough love and sharp elbows to his urgent warning about the difficulty of defeating a man with no bottom, no shame, and no limits.” (Charles Sykes, author of How the Right Lost Its Mind)

Good but......
Wilson knows his business (political strategy), I sincerely pray the Democrats take his advice to heart!
That being said Wilson does have the habit of going off the rails at times. As a resident of Snow Mexico I'm pretty certain I know the difference between a "Communist" and a "Socialist", a Communist will assonate you with nerve agent or polonium 210 if you disagree with him. A socialist will simply argue that this or that ought to be free and such if you disagree with him.
Lastly the current President of the US isn't the Devil, not even close.....
The Devil is a master of hiding in the shadows, in short being the unseen hand wielding power behind a legion of proxies sitting on thrones.

Wilson should be Canonized by Democrats
I found this book so fascinating and engrossing that I listened to it twice! it is a great blend of serious strategy and statistical analysis from Wilson's.long years of experience mixed with imaginary and hilarious scenarios of "what could happen" if Trump wins in 2020. He had me laughing out loud and cringing many times. congratulations.

Rick, Rick, Rick...what can I say? Loved E.T.T.D.!
I'm not American, rather Canadian. I guess if we weren't neighbours, allies, friends and didn't live so close to the USA, I (we) might not be so concerned about politics in the USA. With Republicans like Rick Wilson and others like George Conway out there, there's hope that we, as a humanity, maybe won't slide backwards into fascism. I love the honest, abrasive tone in this book; he tells it like it ought to be. Democrats, please, please listen!!
I write this review as Senators deliberate in the impeachment trial. Not having the USA turn into a banana republic is very, very important to the great majority here in Canada. We in Canada enjoy (currently at least) the largest reserves of fresh water. With policies like the latest easing of clean water regulations in the US, one has to wonder that if a dictator could, with the support of a cult, rewrite a sacred Constitution, what would possibly stop a ' President for Life' from simply deciding to roll over us, assimilate us and take what's ours. Rick Wilson suggests that we should all be concerned if not frightened to death.

A Political Cautionary Tale
After four years of mismanagement, scandal, and grift, President Adderall J. Twitterfingers can't possibly win the 2020 election.
His opponents, on the other hand, can still find ways to lose it.
For anyone who's ever wondered how election campaigns really work, nobody can tell it the way Wilson can.

The most important book for 2020
First off, Rick Wilson is an excellent reader, I'm so glad he opted to do the reading himself.
I also very much enjoyed his writing style, I laughed out loud sometimes, and other times guffawed.
But mostly it made me think.
I binged this book, and I feel I'm going to have to listen to it again, there is just so much information.
One of the things it did was shine a huge, unapologetic, somewhat scathing light at the current political system.
He explains reasons behind why Trump won, could win again and how Democrats have to change the way they see themselves and trump voters. There's just so much. I highly recommend this book, especially if you are on social media and don't want trump in office, or his children in office after him (something I have been watching them work on, long before reading this book).
It's's funny, hard, honest, well thought out, and most importantly, lays out a strategy for Nov 3 2020.

Rick Wilson does it again!
An excellent follow up to ETTD, RATD lays out an approach to beating Trump and Trumpism that is very welcome.
the only problem is that it needs to be updated for all of 2020's insanity!

As entertaining as it is informative
This is the second Rick Wilson book I've gotten on Audible, and this is the perfect medium for Wilson. He is a superb commentor and story teller, and his readings remind me of performance artist Spalding Gray, and longform comedians like Mike Birbiglia. Wilson doesn't sound like he's reading so much as telling you a long enthralling tale late evening in a smokey bar on a cold winter's night. I bought "Everything Trump Touches Dies" at the beginning of the summer, and have listened to it several times. I've just finished my first listen of Running, and am just about to start over. Oh, and being able to compare some of Wilson's analysis and predictions with the actual outcomes: BONUS!

BluePrint to Win Against Trumpism
Rick Wilson doesn't hold back; not for fear of "presidential" or supremacist tweets, not for lack of ambition, not for love of a now dismembered Republican Party. Love of country and decency directs his straight-talk about what the situation is in the USA (and around the world), and it's fearsome. But more-so is what you and I can do about it. Mr. Wilson is erudite, funny, and locked on ridding his country of internal threats far worse than any our generation has had the collective misfortune to experience. The context and the blueprint for action is here. Deserves to be translated.
