Publisher's Summary

Running with Scissors is the true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of being Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her psychiatrist, a dead ringer for Santa and a lunatic in the bargain.

Suddenly, at age 12, Augusten Burroughs found himself living in a dilapidated Victorian house in perfect squalor. The doctor's bizarre family, a few patients, and a pedophile living in the backyard shed completed the tableau. Here, there were no rules.

Running with Scissors is at turns foul and harrowing, compelling and maniacally funny. But above all, it is a truly amazing chronicle of an ordinary boy's survival under the most extraordinary circumstances.

Great Story. Missing parts?

Having the author narrate the book makes it easy to follow along. I was assigned this book for a course I am taking in university. I read this book and listened at the same time because I am a slow reader. HOWEVER, for some reason this version of the audio book is missing parts and whole chapters from the physical book that I followed along with. This made my experience less enjoyable than it should’ve been, leaving me to read in silence... I would’ve thought that this version would have everything as it is the more recent of the two that Audible offers. The story however, was still very enjoyable with its crazy events and characters! I would’ve rated 5 stars on all the categories if it wasn’t for the missing parts :(
