Story
In an era in which many Christians consider Jesus a beloved but remote savior, Willard argues compellingly for the relevance of God to every aspect of our existence. Masterfully capturing the central insights of Christ's teachings in a fresh way for today's seekers, he helps us to explore a revolutionary way to experience God by knowing him as an essential part of the here and now, rather than only as part of the hereafter.

Story
For years, Christians have been asking, "If you died tonight, do you know where you would go?" It turns out that many believers have been giving the wrong answer. It is not heaven. Wright outlines the present confusion about a Christian's future hope and shows how it is deeply intertwined with how we live today. Wright asserts that Christianity's most distinctive idea is bodily resurrection, and provides a magisterial defense for a literal resurrection of Jesus. Wright then explores our expectation of "new heavens and a new earth".

Publisher's Summary
Sacred Pathways reveals nine distinct spiritual temperaments - and their strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies - to help you improve your spiritual life and deepen your personal walk with God.
It's time to strip away the frustration of a one-size-fits-all spirituality and discover a path of worship that frees you to be you. Experienced spiritual directors, pastors, and church leaders recognize that all of us engage with God differently, and it's about time we do too.
In this updated and expanded edition of Sacred Pathways, Gary Thomas details nine spiritual temperaments and - like the Enneagram and other tools do with personality - encourages you to investigate the ways you most naturally express yourself in your relationship with God. He encourages you to dig into the traits, strengths, and pitfalls in your devotional approach so you can eliminate the barriers that keep you locked into rigid methods of worship and praise.
Plus, as you begin to identify and understand your own temperament, you'll soon learn about the temperaments that aren't necessarily "you" but that may help you understand the spiritual tendencies of friends, family, and others around you.
Whatever temperament or blend of temperaments best describes you, rest assured it's not by accident. It's by the design of a Creator who knew what he was doing when he made you according to his own unique intentions. If your spiritual walk is not what you'd like it to be, you can change that, starting here. Sacred Pathways will show you the route you were made to travel, marked by growth and filled with the riches of a close walk with God.
A Sacred Pathways video Bible study is also available for group or individual use, sold separately.
Accompanying exercises and discussion questions are available in the audiobook companion PDF download.

Authors Should Not Read Their Own Books. Ever.
Still working my way through this book for my Master's degree. I learn best by listening to the audio, while reading the print book. I reiterate my statement in the subject line. Authors should not read their own books. Ever. Gary Thomas doesn't have a "book-reading voice". I'm sorry, because I'm certain that sounds harsh. The book is terrific, but reading aloud is a different kettle of fish. An audio book reader should have a voice that is soothing enough so that the listener's focus is on the book's content - not the unsoothing voice of the reader. I will now have to buy the Kindle version (already bought the print book, so now, more expense), so that I can have my Kindle robot read it to me. At least his voice is not the focus for the listener.
