About this listen
More heart-stopping action and suspense from the best-selling author of Amazonia and Subterranean....
In his five previous thrillers, James Rollins, the king of speculative adventure writing, has taken listeners on mind-expanding journeys spanning from the top of the world to deep within the Earth’s surface. In this latest voyage of imagination combining hard science with explosive excitement — his most breathtaking yet — he explores the mysterious sands of the Arabian peninsula.
Twenty years ago, a wealthy British financier disappeared near Ubar, the fabled lost city buried beneath the sands of Oman. Now, an expedition of scientists, led by the financier’s daughter, is finally setting off for the legendary metropolis to unlock the desert’s secrets. What they find, however, is more beautiful than they ever dreamed — and far deadlier. Within Ubar is a powerful energy source that could fuel the entire earth above — if it can be harnessed. But before they can resurface, the explorers become trapped. For the same life-giving force that can save the world is about to set off a giant, sweeping storm awesome enough to annihilate everything in its wake....

Awesome book
Great book, well read too. I always appreciate when the voice actor reading it does voices for characters, even if it does sound a bit silly when they portray another gender.

A favourite Rollins story well read.
One of my favourite James Rollins books. Well told by a person with a rubber voice flexing into the people. I use audiobooks when I’m in the recovery phase of chronic migraine. The reader's voice is perfect.

Juvenile
too fantastical and unrealistic. Character and relationship development is extremely poor. Seemed a lot like a Tomb Raider / (wannabe) Indiana Jones knockoff. So many plot holes.
I suffered through it while on a trip.
The narrator was clear, but just added to the juvenile feel of the book.

Monotone Narrator and a story which isn't the best
Basically this is the first audio-book I actively disliked before the end of the story. I am about 25 minutes away from finishing and I thought why am I listening to this?
A nearly monotone narrator who doesn't change cadence, a story with so many adjectives that I got bored, and a plot line that got more and more unbelievable as we went along, convinced me that I had better things to do than spend another 25 minutes to try and finish this book. Believe me I tried twice to finish it.
Starts with a thriller start and some interesting plausible? science but than goes down hill after the first few chapters.
I wouldn't be wasting any more money on James Rollins.
