Love this series. OP MC done right.

This series just keeps growing on me. The dry humour is awesome, the “Pagoda” parts of this book perfectly sum up what I love about this series. More and more the MC’s perspective is funny and enjoyable. It’s refreshing. He’s serious, but how he processes other people’s stuff is sometimes very funny with a dose of dry humour. This book leans into the OP MC and doesn’t pull back or nerf the MC to try and get a handle on power scaling; it drives forward with an understanding that it can do so all the way unto the heights of power in the universe. This is the right way to handle an OP MC, unlike most books that give and take and give and take.

The MC acknowledges his weaknesses but lavishes praise in his own mind onto those who are good at those things. It’s sweet and refreshing. An MC that feels like he’s the luckiest dude because of someone in his life is refreshing. I had worried early on in the series that the main character would be the typical unrepentant misanthrope, but the author refreshingly bucks the trend and doesn’t ascribe to the priest monk model of all hard work and no time for relationships. The MC is pretty singular in focus, but the people around him appreciate this about him and celebrate his willingness to fill the role he does. Again, a refreshing departure in some ways from other series.

This is quite a unique series in how it’s played out, and it’s all the better for it. The right MC with the right supporting characters that he would be lost without…or at least a lesser person on some level. He doesn’t always know what’s good for him, but thankfully there are those around him who know what he needs and love him deeply or will keep the big man grounded.

Finally, there are so darn many fist-pumping moments in this book. Right from the get-go. It’s big and fun and has great levels of creative focus and direction. This book made me smile more than any book in the last 200 or so I’ve read. I mean that too.

As usual great narration. Fantastic vocal timber and believable female voices. It’s really well done. The main narration voice used in the third person tends to have a rye tone that is a bit of a wink to the audience, it works well and is in keeping with the tone of the writing. Well done.
