About this listen
This program is read by the author and includes original music and a bonus conversation with Amy Ray of Indigo Girls.
From the Grammy-nominated folk singer and songwriter, an inspiring exploration of creativity and the redemptive power of song.
Mary Gauthier was 12 years old when she was given her Aunt Jenny’s old guitar and taught herself to play with a Mel Bay basic guitar workbook. Music offered her a window to a world where others felt the way she did. Songs became lifelines to her, and she longed to write her own, one day.
Then, for a decade, while struggling with addiction, Gauthier put her dream away and her call to songwriting faded. It wasn’t until she got sober and went to an open mic with a friend did she realize that she not only still wanted to write songs, she needed to. Today, Gauthier is a decorated musical artist, with numerous awards and recognition for her songwriting, including a Grammy nomination.
In Saved by a Song, Mary Gauthier pulls the curtain back on the artistry of songwriting. Part memoir, part philosophy of art, part nuts and bolts of songwriting, her audiobook celebrates the redemptive power of song to inspire and bring seemingly different kinds of people together.
A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Essentials
"Generous and big-hearted, Gauthier has stories to tell and worthwhile advice to share." (Wally Lamb, author of I Know This Much Is True)
"Gauthier has an uncanny ability to combine songwriting craft with a seeker’s vulnerability and a sage’s wisdom.” (Amy Ray, Indigo Girls)

Music Heals the Soul 🎙 ❤️
I want to say thank you for being you, for sharing the beautiful mosaic pieces of your soul once broken, now glowing with light. I'm a singer/songwriter and a Veteran of the CAF who swims the waves of the PTSD. Thank you for helping me finally see me and for helping my brothers and sisters through Songwriting with Soldiers. What an epic ending to one of the best books I have ever read. I am Co-founder of a registered Not-for-profit Foundation in Newfoundland, Canada called Pathways to Better Days where we believe Music Heals the Soul. Much love and respect, Grace

I am Gobsmacked!
Oh how I want to find the words that will inspire you to buy this book and listen to it. Someone else said it's one of those books that if you're reading the reviews, it's come into your life for a reason, you need this book. it was that for me. I had never heard of Mary Gauthier before and I'm not a rabid music fan but I listened to Tom Powers interviewing her about this book and I bought it before it was finished. I just finished it and will likely listen to it again. It transformed, challenged and shifted me. From the soul, I thank you Ms.Gauthier.
BTW you should listen to it rather than read it, it's magical.
