About this listen
Kate Winthrop, the only child of a wealthy shipping magnate, has the course of her life charted for her by her parents. She's expected to marry well and produce a successor to the Winthrop empire. But Kate has a very different path in mind. Her true passion lies with photography - and with women.
Alone in the city after losing her brother, Sicilian immigrant Giuliana Russo starts working for the Winthrops as a maid. Despite their different social status, Kate and Giuliana become friends, much to the dismay of Kate's parents.
As the connection between the two women grows, a devastating earthquake hits San Francisco and ignites fires that sweep through the city for three days and nights.
Will the disaster shatter their tentative feelings for each other, or will they find the courage to save each other's lives - and their hearts?
Contains mature themes.

Taken back in time
this book brought me back to the time of the droughts in California in 1900s. Very reminiscent of Grapes of Wrath.
Great writing and character development.

Outstanding. I didn't want to reach the end!
I so wish there were more books in this series, because they blow me away with the depth and emotion conveyed in each. Shaken to the Core is heart-warming and exciting, and the main characters are believable and relatable. It was so hard to stop listening to the story! The narrator also did a wonderful job, and helped add to the easy style of storytelling that Jae does so well. I want to know more of Lucy's story! Fabulous secondary character.

Wonderful setting description!
Jae did and amazing job placing the reader in the year 1906. It felt like I was taking the journey with the characters. Such a well done historic romance and Samantha did a phenomenal job bringing life to the story!

Beautiful
Such a well written story. If I had realized what year it was set in I probably wouldn't have purchased it (not usually into books that are set historically) but I'm glad I didn't pay close attention to the description because I would have been missing out. Beautifully written characters that I adored. I want more of this adorable couple. There's so much more to the story than just chastened glances too. I couldn't stop listening.

Unexpected profound love
This is a great story about a beautiful unlikely friendship that turns to respect and love between two women as they get put through one tough situation after another. Their relationship gets put to the test time and time again, and they dig deep to find their resilience and strong will to be together.
