Jacob Morgan slayed the narration! Seriously impressive commitment! He gave each male character he voiced so much life!!! Bravo!!! I’m a fan now! Michelle Sparks is always a favourite! Great duet between these two and always appreciate a true duet!!!
The voice acting really was special in this story and that was certainly no easy task here. Definitely check your triggers!

Not what I expected
First, Jacob Morgan and Michelle Sparks? Yes. The performances were excellent. These two are some of the best narrators I’ve ever listened to.
Second, the book is well written overall, there were a few times it dragged and other times it went so fast I had to re-listen to make sure I got it all. There were moments of heartbreak and passion.
Third, what surprised me, and disturbed me, was the violence. I knew it was going to be a dark story by the description and the cover art. I often read dark romances. I wasn’t prepared for the many and frequency of scenes that included physical and mental domestic violence, violent sexual assault, and descriptions of child abuse. I would definitely suggest that some content warnings be added to the book’s description. If you are triggered by any of those, this is not the book for you.
Overall, I can’t say whether or not I enjoyed the book. In the end, I’m quite ambivalent. This would not be a book I’d be interested in reading again.

This was an absolutely devastating story, told in the must gut wrenching yet beautiful way.
It will always amaze me how H.D. Carlton can capture such dark themes and create the perfect stories with them.
Mako and Rivers' story was fantastic. River went through HELL, yet she never stopped fighting and trying to escape the awful situations she was thrown into.
Mako was perfection. Patient in every way, he never pushed River too far, yet was always there to make sure she was safe.
I wouldn't define this as a romance, not in the slightest. It was a story of survival and a devastating look into the world of DV relationships and emotional trauma. Yes, there is a happy ending and a swoon worthy love interest, but the story is so much more than that
It's definitely one of my favorites by H.D!
And the audiobook was incredible! Jacob Morgan and Michelle Sparks did an incredible job being these characters to life and really captured the raw emotions within the story!

Undecided....
I unexpectedly enjoyed Haunting Adeline and Hunting Adeline (even though the latter was hard to listen to for the initial part of the story). I was really expecting this story to follow in the same footsteps. I knew there would be trigger warnings, but I wasn't expecting for over 50% of the audiobook to be solely focused on describing DV, SA and child SA. If I hadn't had paid for this audiobook instead of using a credit, I would have stopped listening and returned it. The second half, although still containing difficult scenes, was a lot better and flowed vs dragging like I had been up to then. It's definitely not on my re-listen or favorites list, but I am glad I listened until the end and it was wrapped up well.

Keep them coming!
I jumped right into this one after the Cat and Mouse duet!! Some scenes are hard to get through **trigger warning** many SA scenes. Love the spice love the story between all characters, the narrators HOT as usual!! finished in a few days!

Read Triggers beforehand, there are a lot of them
Besides the fact that this is bad writing in general (feels like a teen wrote it?). There is a lot of SA including child SA and domestic abuse that makes it cringy to read through. I’ve read dark romances before but I’m not sure how the SA forwards the plot in anyway, and it happens a lot. Why is this rated so high?

dark in the wrong way
this book was alot of SA, obviously reason trigger warnings but it was unsettling and the story was not great
