About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Kristen Ashley comes a new novella in her River Rain Series....

Elsa Cohen has everything she ever wanted. A challenging career. A bicoastal lifestyle. And an amazing man—the kind, loving, and handsome Hale Wheeler—who adores her and has asked her to be his wife.

She isn’t ready for the surprise news she’s received. And she doesn’t know how to tell Hale.

Once Hale discovers that his future has taken a drastic turn, a fear he’s never experienced takes hold. He just doesn’t understand why.

Family and friends rally around the couple as they adjust to their new reality, and along the way, more surprises hit the River Rain crew as love is tested and life goes on.

Kristen Ashley is the New York Times bestselling author of over 80 romance novels. She’s a hybrid author, publishing titles both independently and traditionally. Her books have been translated in 14 languages and she’s sold millions of books. In March, she released the The Girl in The Woods, the second in her romantic thriller series, Misted Pines. And her latest audiobook is Perfect Together, a second chance romance that will break your heart and then put it back together stronger than before. She also published Too Good To be True, her first-ever murder mystery romance in an episodic format on Kindle Vella. Kristen, born in Gary and raised in Brownsburg, Indiana, and was a fourth-generation graduate of Purdue University. Since, she has lived in Denver, the West Country of England, and she now resides in Phoenix. She worked as a charity executive for 18 years prior to beginning her independent publishing career. She now writes full-time. Although romance is her genre, the prevailing themes running through all of Kristen’s novels are friendship, family and a strong sisterhood. To this end, and as a way to thank her readers for their support, Kristen has created the Rock Chick Nation, a series of programs that are designed to give back to her readers and promote a strong female community. More Cheese Than All of Wisconsin

Kristen Ashley has written many of my favorite fun reads. This book shows little if her talents in regard to plot or character development. It is more of a series of over the top conversations with contrived angst and arguments over who has the biggest mouth. Trite dialogue abounds, " If you weren't you and Elsa weren't Elsa..." as well as the ubiquitous "thus" which has become an Ashley staple in recent years.

If you've ever heard a promo for the cable show "Treasure of Oak Island" you will immediately recognize the narration style. To cover up the fact that nothing is happening, the narrator reads in a loud emotive voice trying to inject drama where none exists.

If you are new to K.A. don't start here. If you love her writing it's best to pick an old favorite to avoid reader remorse.
