Disappointing

I thought there would be guided meditation/s in this book, but that is not the case. Meditations are read, but include what can only be called stage directions! For example, "...count down from 5, pause, 4, pause, 3 pause..." And " ... at this point, stop talking for 30 seconds..." It is suggested in the book that you tape record yourself or someone else reading the meditation - so I guess that's where the stage directions come in.

Also, the filler content is quite outdated, with
analogies that are no longer relevant, old school views, and values that are stated to teach one what is important in life. These values are integral in what they call the 'programming' , and indeed are what you program yourself with (once you 'tape-record' yourself that is.) It is emphatically stated that you must Not change any of the original wording. Thing is, I don't want outdated programming! I did really want this book to be more than what it turned out to be.

I'm sure that their hearts were in the right place, but times change. Now we know that what is best for us, what we value as individuals, must come from inside ourselves, not from outside societal values - especially when they are from 1940 - 1990.

Also the narrator talks very slowly, too slowly. Maybe this book would be better in paper copy because one could skim, I'm not sure. Also, I should note, I returned the book before listening in its entirety. I did sample from each chapter though, at 2x speed.
