Meredith Martin Delinn just lost everything: her friends, her homes, her social standing — because her husband Freddy cheated rich investors out of billions of dollars.

Desperate and facing homelessness, Meredith receives a call from her old best friend, Constance Flute. Connie's had recent worries of her own, and the two depart for a summer on Nantucket in an attempt to heal. But the island can't offer complete escape, and they're plagued by new and old troubles alike. When Connie's brother Toby — Meredith's high school boyfriend — arrives, Meredith must reconcile the differences between the life she is leading and the life she could have had.

Set against the backdrop of a Nantucket summer, Elin Hilderbrand delivers a suspenseful story of the power of friendship, the pull of love, and the beauty of forgiveness.

“Clearly the Madoff family inspired this plot, but Hilderbrand gives it her own sun-kissed, optimistic spin — which is not to say it’s all Rosa rugosa, just that there’s a silver lining to the ugliest of circumstances.” —Elisabeth Egan, New York Times Contemporaine Fiction Fiction de genre Fiction féminine Romance Romance contemporaine

A strange blend of mediocrity and brilliance. This was not my favourite book, not even close, yet I really enjoyed it overall. It started very slow and took me a long while to like and care about the characters. I even took a break once, about 1/2 way through but quickly came back to it. I needed to know what happened. The narrator was my least favourite part (sorry!)
The last 1/4 of the book was my favourite, true to Hilderbrand’s story telling. As the book ended I thought “I loved it”.
A good listen but missing some elements to completely draw the listener in until the end.
Strange. I recommend it but only if you’ll stick to it through its entirety.

Ending so good!

This story started a bit slow, yet when the characters developed I couldn’t live without them!

Another great one!

I’ve read over 20 of Elin Hilderbrand’s books. This one didn’t have the twists in the plots of many others. I found the dialogue somewhat slow and predictable.

Not what I expected
