Publisher's Summary

Like all the Bedwyn men, Aidan has a reputation for cool arrogance. But this proud nobleman also possesses a loyal, passionate heart - and it is this fierce loyalty that has brought Colonel Lord Aidan to Ringwood Manor to honor a dying soldier's request. Having promised to comfort and protect the man's sister, Aidan never expected to find a headstrong, fiercely independent woman who wants no part of his protection, nor did he expect the feelings this beguiling creature would ignite in his guarded heart. And when a relative threatens to turn Eve out of her home, Aidan gallantly makes her an offer she can't refuse: marry him, if only to save her home. And now, as all of London breathlessly awaits the transformation of the new Lady Aidan Bedwyn, the strangest thing happens: With one touch, one searing embrace, Aidan and Eve's "business arrangement" is about to be transformed into something slightly surprising.

What the critics say

"Believable complications and an intriguing clash of personalities ensure the story never grows stale, and Balogh's quirky supporting characters - including Eve's gutsy housekeeper and Aidan's formidable aunt - sprinkle the tale with homespun humor." ( Publishers Weekly)

I smile and I cried

I first started with Simply Quartet before realizing in book 2 that the stories of the Bedwyn was to be read first. I’m glad I switched to this series and look forward to hearing about the other Bedwyn siblings.

Couldn’t put it down

10/10 great experience. The story and the characters are so captivating, and the narration by Landor (as always) a masterclass.
Loved it!

LOVED IT!

Absolutely loved this story. Can’t wait to read the rest in the series. If you like the Bridgerton series, you will love this book, Mary Balogh just might be my new favourite author!

Rosalyn Landor was perfection as always. Truly all period piece romances should be read by her. She brings them to life.

What a Joy!

Such a tremendous writer and her writing feels so familiar! I was intrigued to read a little about her on Wikipedia.

Such refreshing characters without the pomp and ceremony of the era.

Feel good listen bit slow at times.

The narrator was amazing. I love when there is more then one narrator, but she is talented. Her accents and children’s voices were impressive. Story is a bit slow and repeats little, not enough to not enjoy it. Worth it.

Not bad

I enjoyed this book. It's a bit repetitive at times, and a bit tense, but overall worth a read.
