About this listen

The bastard step-child of Milton Friedman and Anthony Bourdain, Socialism Sucks is a bar crawl through former, current, and wannabe socialist countries around the world. Free-market economists Robert Lawson and Benjamin Powell travel to countries like Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, and Sweden to investigate the dangers and idiocies of socialism - while drinking a lot of beer.

Short but brilliant

very easily digestible, hard talking points reinforced by direct knowledge and evidence.

Well I dont agree with their quick blurb on open borders, since disprovem but several studies in the U.K. everything else is bang on.

The Awful Truth Laid Bare

The book's brevity is due to the fact that it focuses on the RESULTS of Socialist policies. These proof-is-in-the-pudding arguments are compelling enough, to be sure. A book that explored the reasons WHY Socialism fails EVERY SINGLE TIME; why it is incompatible with the human condition, would delve into topics outside the authors' fields of expertise. Still, I don't doubt that Lawson and Powell would have been able to make those arguments in compelling fashion. They just chose to leave that to others and not have a 12-hour book. I like that they stuck with the 'textbook' definition of Socialism and underscored the foolishness of single-issue people who care about matters largely outside of state economics yet define themselves as "Socialist".

These two authors do a great job of reviewing the atrocies of socialism and the benefits of capitalism through the Universe.

Must read in today's world

Absolutely great book that brings the arguments against socialism down to a everyday level. The mix of ideas and stories is done very well.
