About this listen
An instant New York Times best seller!
USA Today's top 100 books to read while stuck at home social distancing
"No-one does suburban paranoia like Shari Lapena - this slowly unfurling nightmare will have you biting your nails until the end." (Ruth Ware, number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Woman in Cabin 10)
The new domestic suspense novel from New York Times best-selling author of The Couple Next Door, A Stranger in the House, and An Unwanted Guest, Shari Lapena
Maybe you don't know your neighbors as well as you thought you did....
"This is a very difficult letter to write. I hope you will not hate us too much.... My son broke into your home recently while you were out."
In a quiet, leafy suburb in upstate New York, a teenager has been sneaking into houses - and into the owners' computers as well - learning their secrets, and maybe sharing some of them, too.
Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? After two anonymous letters are received, whispers start to circulate, and suspicion mounts. And when a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches the breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they're telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets?
In this neighborhood, it's not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide....
You never really know what people are capable of.

Story
It's winter in the Catskills and Mitchell's Inn, nestled deep in the woods, is the perfect setting for a relaxing—maybe even romantic—weekend away. So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity—and all contact with the outside world—the guests settle in and try to make the best of it. Soon, though, one of the guests turns up dead—it looks like an accident. But when a second guest dies, they start to panic. Within the snowed-in paradise, something—or someone—is picking off the guests one by one.

What the critics say
"Slyly plotted...Lapena skillfully maximizes suspense with her dual story lines that eventually collide, as well as some deft misdirection...many fans of domestic suspense will be satisfied.” (Publishers Weekly)
"Poised and chilling.” (Wall Street Journal)
“Someone We Know is a tour de force of thriller writing. Shari Lapena proves yet again that she is the mistress of the pacy plot, cliff edge tension and menacing suburban claustrophobia. Fans will be delighted and if you haven’t read her books yet, then why on earth not?” (Gilly Macmillan, New York Times best-selling author of The Nanny)

Why a cliff hanger ending?
This seems to be a theme with this author. Though these are stand alone novels with no series planned, they end on a cliff hanger. The novel itself was great until that point. Why do that?

This book is just ok. A lot of characters that all seem similar. The book never really took off for me and engaged me. The ending was pretty weak Imho. If looking to download an audiobook there is probably a better choice out there.

It’s a simple who done it? don’t expect more. Too many characters, not much development of any of them, seemed long and drawn out and then a twist ending.

WHO DONE IT?
It was ok! It was not my favorite storyline as it seemed to be a basic story of who did what.
performance was ok, some characters or rather most characters had the same sounding voice.
If I had the choice to listen again, I would pass!
I finished the book just so I wouldn't waste my 1 credit!
The last few books I've learned the hard way that you shouldn't rely on the reviews alone or the sample provided. Take an extra few minutes and search for more details and better reviews on other platforms before buying a book!
