Publisher's Summary

Humphrey Westcott, Earl of Riverdale, has died, leaving behind a fortune that will forever alter the lives of everyone in his family - including the daughter no one knew he had.

Anna Snow grew up in an orphanage in Bath knowing nothing of the family she came from. Now she discovers that the late Earl of Riverdale was her father and that she has inherited his fortune. She is also overjoyed to learn she has siblings. However, they want nothing to do with her or her attempts to share her new wealth. But the new earl's guardian is interested in Anna.

Avery Archer, Duke of Netherby, keeps others at a distance. Yet something prompts him to aid Anna in her transition from orphan to lady. As London society and her newfound relatives threaten to overwhelm Anna, Avery steps in to rescue her and finds himself vulnerable to feelings and desires he has hidden so well and for so long.

Disappointing

I was delighted by Mary Balogh’s Bedwyn series and eager to read more of her work. But this novel was a disappointment. It felt flat and plodding. There was too much repetition, with the same plot points retold by multiple characters for no reason except perhaps to fill pages. I never felt any real tension or concern for the characters and they were mostly bland and uninteresting. The main characters had the potential to be interesting, but they didn’t feel believable.

A beautiful Story.

The twist at the beginning with life lessons that continues to grow until the end❣️

Someone to Love

Ending seemed rushed and anticlimactic. The main male protagonist seemed unnecessary "mysterious" without real purpose other than to create a a steroetypical hard to get "bad boy". Other relationships were left under-developed and the romantic scenes were boring.

The second half is woefully unsatisfying

The novel had such a promising start... However, the second half was hella boring. It was terribly anticlimactic and when I realized the novel was over, I was like, "What? That's it???" Ugh. This had such potential, yet the saving grace is that it is just the first of the Westcott series novels. The first one I listened to was Abigail's story, and THAT was amazing. This one, in comparison, just didn't feel enough.

laughably horrible

This is the worst romance I've ever listened to. I'll admit the only reason I even gave it a chance is because Rosalyn Landor is the narrator. I literally stopped listening right before the biggest love scene between our 2 main characters, that's how terrible this book is I just couldn't do it. There is no build up to the relationship of our main characters or much of a foundation to it at all. Our "prince charming" of the story is unattractive, creepy and weird so much so that I couldn't listen to the love making scene! it was to awkward lol. Just a terrible book but as always Rosalyn Landor did an amazing performance. I will always love her ❤️

Mary Balogh?

The storyline is good, with so much potential, and yet, it failed miserably.
Very slow, with long paragraphs describing clothing, and quite repetitive.
The main characters had POVs of the same incident/situation, making the story drag even more.
