About this listen
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.
Where to go from there? From bad to worse, apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire - and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?
Soulless is the first book of the Parasol Protectorate series: a comedy of manners set in Victorian London, full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea drinking.

Gripping read!
I thought this book was very well written and narrated. I felt lost in the first chapter but was quickly absorbed by the characters and storyline in chapter 2. The narrator changed voices for different characters throughout the book which I felt added to the story. I would recommend to anyone who likes a dark fantasy read.

funny, fast paced, and romantic
I loved everything about this story. The narration, the way things played out, the sexiness and most definitely the humor and wit of the main chatacter! This is a must read especially if you love books about supernatural happenings and romance.

Amusing Urban Fantasy/Victorian Steampunk Romance
Alexa is suffering under the challenges of being an old spinster (at the advanced age of 26!), having Italian heritage, not classically pretty (the Italian/Roman nose) and being intelligent (her mother declares her to be bluestocking, and that is not a compliment).
She is also soulless (which imeans she can counteract various supernatural actions and render the paranormal beings human when she touches them). She is a dab hand at self defence with hat pins and parasols.
It is amusing lighthearted fun, the worldbuilding is well drawn (lots of comments about how modern society is, while the Alexa is struggling with feminine fashions, and society's expectations of her behaviour).
I did like the good looking vampire dandies and gorgeous (but often snarly) werewolves.
The romance I expected to span the trilogy of books, but it got off to a rolicking start as the main characters already knew and slightly disliked one another, therefore no slow pine or gradual build up.
Narration was so enjoyable. I have already purchased the next book.

Ugh
I had to read this for my bookclub. It was really difficult to get through. Most others in the bookclub felt a similar way.
To me seemed like fanfic. Would not recommend.

An internal conflict
I hate werewolf novels. I am so sick of alpha male nonsense. But I like the main character. I love her, I think she's great. I like that she's smart and plucky and isn't pretty and is entirely awkward. But I am so so tired of the Alpha male nonsense of werewolf supernatural stories
