About this listen
Thousands of years ago, the Persian king Xerxes the Great was said to have raided the Treasury at Delphi, carrying away two solid gold pillars as tribute. In 1800 Napoleon Bonaparte and his army stumble across the pillars in the Pennine Alps. Unable to transport them, Napoleon creates a map on the labels of 12 bottles of rare wine. And when Napoleon dies, the bottles disappear....
Treasure hunters Sam and Remi Fargo are exploring the Great Pocomoke Swamp in Delaware when they are shocked to discover a World War II German U-boat. Inside, they find a bottle taken from Napoleon's "lost cellar". Fascinated, the Fargos set out to find the rest of the collection.
But another connoisseur of sorts has been looking for the bottle they've just found. He is Hadeon Bondaruk - a half- Russian, half-Persian millionaire. He claims to be a descendant of King Xerxes himself. And he wants his treasure back.

Story
Polar shift: It is the name for a phenomenon that may have occurred many times in the past. At the very least, it disorients birds and animals and damages electrical equipment. At its worst, it causes massive eruptions, earthquakes, and climatic changes. At its very worst, it would mean the obliteration of all living matter, and if that happens - exit Earth. Sixty years ago, aHungarian genius discovered how to artificially trigger such a shift, but then his work was lost. Or so it was thought....

I enjoyed listening to this book! *Spoiler
First time listening to a Fargo series from Clive, and I was not disappointed!
Scott Brick did a really good job narrating, he did an excellent job of putting accents to the characters which brings them that much more to life!
Most memorable moment to me - is when the Fargo's snuck in to Bondaruk's home during a party he was throwing and pretending to be guest's while searching out information, and getting to know more about him.
Some really great moments there!
Of course there are many more, but that one stands out to me.

Fun and complex
Great story line! Kept my interest all the way through. Once in awhile it was unclear which character was talking.

Good book, a little cheesy
I'll start by saying I did really like this book. It is a little cheesy at parts, but it seemed to really work with the story so it's not necessarily a bad thing. Scott Brick does a pretty good job of reading and the amount of accents he can pull off (Russian, Italian, Hungarian etc.) successfully is impressive. I just bought the second book so that says something.

My first of many
I've been meaning to get around to diving into Clive Cussler for many years. I have to admit I was a bit hesitant at first, but I found myself enjoying this book immensely. I listen to audio book when I go for my walks, and if the book is good I usually tack on a few more blocks to my route just so I have an excuse to keep on listening.
My doctor is happy I'm walking more. My wife is happy that out of the house ;) and I'm happy I have so many great stories ahead of me. Woot! #Audible1

A Wonderful Adventure
So great to have a story like this that is fiction but has so many true historical facts throughout. The authors ability to describe and create events and places is second to none.
I'd highly recommend reading Clive Cussler.

I’m trying so hard...
Sooo I just finished a couple of great book series’ (Peter Clines 14 etc & Sarah Lyons Fleming Until the end of the world & the city series- all amazing).... I felt sad, like I’d lost some friends lol.... I found a bunch of great reviews online about the dozens of Cussler adventure-type books and THIS ONE IS KILLING ME. I find my mind constantly trailing off, thinking of other things while this audio book is playing. I don’t know why but I CANT get into it. So bummed! Narration is kind of bland. Maybe that’s the problem. I’m only 2 hours into it and I’m moving on to another audiobook for now cause I’m exhausted of constantly going back to find out what I missed when I was daydreaming instead of listening (and that’s not my usual style). I’ll try again in the future maybe!
