About this listen
From her first moment at Merryweather High, Melinda Sordino knows she's an outcast. She busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops - a major infraction in high-school society - so her old friends won't talk to her, and people she doesn't know glare at her. She retreats into her head, where the lies and hypocrisies of high school stand in stark relief to her own silence, making her all the more mute.
But it's not so comfortable in her head, either - there's something banging around in there that she doesn't want to think about. Try as she might to avoid it, it won't go away, until there is a painful confrontation. Once that happens, she can't be silent - she must speak the truth.
In this powerful audiobook, an utterly believable, bitterly ironic heroine speaks for many a disenfranchised teenager while learning that, although it's hard to speak up for yourself, keeping your mouth shut is worse.

Tasteful writing of important issues
I just finished the book and it is 3:11am. I had a hard time putting it down. I was not sure I was going to like reading this due to the topic. However it was tastefully written and I'm so glad I picked up the audio version. My husband brought this book to my attention and told me to listen to it. we have now had our 4 teenage boys listen to it and will be following up with family conversations. I highly recommend this book. listen all the way to the end! -Sarah

Great Performance, Terrible Book
I actually only signed up to get access to this audiobook, because this book was so painful to read that the only way I could finish was to have someone else read it to me. I think the story would have been okay, if not for the horrible writing style and unlikeable characters. The whole book was filled with what someone imagined teens to be like, not what they actually are like. Would not recommend.
