Carnage wasn't as violent as he typically is

Very weird scenario with what Carnage was trying to attempt. I was expecting more than what he was trying to accomplish. The narrator did an awesome job at portraying the characters with different voices and tones.

Cartoonish but Entertaining

The criticism that this Carnage story "holds back" is warranted. The psychopathic symbiote is generally portrayed as an R-rated force.. but while depicting some violence, this audiobook presents a PG-13 version. 'Carnage in New York' just doesn't have the gore I expected when the central villain is one portrayed as a sadistic, bloodthirsty, and vicious monster.
That said, this story from David Michelline and Dean Wesley Smith is an enjoyable Spiderman adventure. Yes, the characters are 2-dimensional and the plot is pretty ludicrous (Carnage tries to openly poison homeless people at a charity soup kitchen with a serum that makes them psychopathic), but setting expectations aside and simply remembering that this is a comic book story renders it a fun romp for a beloved character. There is insight into Peter Parker's married relationship with Mary-Jane Watson; his dedication to Aunt May; and his professional life at The Daily Bugle - but the tale also provides plenty of webslinger action.

Additionally, the narration by Tim Paige is fantastic. His timbre, cadence, tone, and pacing are spot-on. Paige's voice-acting is also notable - with realistic accents and a genuinely chilling portrayal of Carnage/Cletus Kassady.

Viewed through the correct lens, this is an imperfect but distracting tale. Speaking as a comic book geek looking for a fun diversion, I rate this story 6 stars out of 10. It would be great for a road trip or a boring night shift.. and would be a decent choice for younger teens who are Marvel fans, too.
