Publisher's Summary

Are you divorcing someone who's making the process as difficult as possible? Are they sending you nasty emails, falsifying the truth, putting your children in the middle, abusing you, or abusing the system? Are they "persuasive blamers", manipulating and fooling court personnel to get them on their side? If so, you need this book.

Splitting is an essential legal and psychological guide for anyone divorcing a persuasive blamer: someone who suffers from borderline personality disorder (BPD), narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), and/or antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). This second edition includes new information about antisocial personalities; expanded information about domestic violence, child abuse, alienation, and false allegations; how to approach protective orders and deal with child custody disputes; and a new chapter on how to successfully present your case to decision makers.

Turn to this guide to help you:

  • Predict what your spouse may do or say in court
  • Take control of your case with assertiveness and strategic thinking
  • Choose a lawyer who understands your case
  • Learn how emails and social networking can be used against you

spot on

Very informative but strangely unsurprising. This, book describes exactly what I am going through. Wonderfully validating.

Fantastic book, highly recommend

I’m a family lawyer and found this book to be a very helpful guide to managing these high-conflict personalities during divorce. The descriptions of the court process were highly accurate. The difficulty for lawyers lies in how to manage these people, given that there are so many different ways to approach a family law problem. Clients look to us for guidance and it can be difficult to understand (and therefore advise our clients) why these “persuasive blamers” do what they do, how they often get away with it, and how to counteract it. There are many moving parts in family litigation, and even more so with people like this. I found the practical advice to be very helpful in that it provides clear recommendations and the rationale behind them, and I will be ordering the paper copy so that I can lend it to clients in the future.

Required Reading for PD in Divorce

Great information in this book. Well organized, with not too much repetition, and excellent conclusions at the end of each chapter.
Strong and direct language considers the personalities of the readers of the book.
The only minor downside is that I wish the tables were available as a support pdf document as they were difficult to recreate in my own notes.
