About this listen

In the eleventh book in the New York Times bestselling Spy School series, Ben Ripley goes on a rescue mission when one of his own is abducted from a remote Alaskan training facility.

Ben Ripley and his friends are training in Alaska when Cyrus Hale is kidnapped by his old Russian nemesis. Ben, Erica, and the others mount a rescue mission, but events quickly spiral out of control in a plot involving the secret history of US-Russian relations, a young KGB agent with skills to rival Erica’s—and lots and lots of bears.

Amazing Series

Amazing series and while this is not my favorite book, it was still amazing. Great for all ages filled with action, humour and a hint of romance. Can’t wait for the next one!

Review of this book:

This is by far one of the best books in this series! I can’t wait for the 10th book to come out! Some other books like this are the city spies series and Charlie Thorne series.

Review of spy school goes north

Spy school goes north wouldn’t be my favourite spy school book but overall it is still better than most books I’ve read.

Gibbs just HAD to make a character gay. Classic. This was supposed to be a children’s story.

We have loved this series from Day 1. It has passed hours of time in the car for my 4 kids without fighting or noise. They are dead silent and BEG for me to turn it on the second we get in the car. It has been a funny, lighthearted and generally appropriate series for my 7-12 year old boys and girl, but also enjoyable for myself!

With that said, I have listened cautiously as the plot lines have become increasingly more woke and controversial. One book had an underlying message about climate change and another book spoke about “conspiracy theorists” and the author just has to pitch his opinion about politics and such at the end. It has opened up some opportunities for conversations with my kiddos where we could discuss viewpoints and talk about truth and our values, but I draw the line here.

Over the course of this expansive series, Gibbs has developed this captive audience in children and gets them hooked on the stories and characters and waits until the parents become comfortable and less vigilant and BAM! Beloved Zoe who only attracts the weird dudes and who is repeatedly rejected by the cool guys becomes a Lesbian. She has a “romantic moment” when she sees a horrendously evil teen girl beating on her friend. Yikes.

Any author should know better than to deviate from funny, innocent and lighthearted plot lines when that’s their brand. He had a great thing going and it’s a shame our family of fans don’t get to see it through with Ben and the gang.

Disappointed

What an idiotic thing to do by bringing in a gay relationship. My family and I have loved all your other books but with this new direction I will no longer be doing so.
