About this listen

In the wake of tragedy, SEAL Mark Whitley rushed stateside to act as guardian to his sister’s three young children. But a conflicting will could give custody to someone else - someone Mark remembers as a too-young, too-hot, wild party boy. Even after six years, Mark can’t shake the memory of his close encounter with Isaiah James, or face up to what it says about his own sexuality.

Isaiah’s totally over the crush that made him proposition Mark all those years ago. In fact, he’s done with crushing on the wrong men altogether. For now, he’s throwing himself into proving he’s the best person to care for his cousin’s kids. But there’s no denying there’s something sexy about a big, tough military man with a baby in his arms.

As the legal details get sorted out, their long-buried attraction resurfaces, leading to intimate evenings after the kids are tucked in. A forever future is within reach for all of them, if only Mark can find the courage he needs to trust Isaiah with his secrets - and his heart.

This book is approximately 80,000 words.

The best MM Demisexual/Asexual novel on the market

For the longest time MM novels are synonymous with hot & steamy. I’m beyond pleased to finally see the Demisexual and Asexual communities being represented here. As a Demisexual gay man myself, I must say that the author nailed it on Mark’s feelings and preferences. I can relate so much to the trepidation Mark felt on his wedding night and the consistent worry of not being enough to his boyfriend/husband. Being one of the first novels featuring a Demi/Asexual protagonist also means that there are a lot of room for improvements. Their love for each other did feel rushed and it’s a shame that we didn’t get a chance to learn more about their late night heart-to-hearts nor did we get a chance to see them spending more quality time on getting to know each other. But despite its shortcomings, this novel is one of the most accurate depiction of Demi/Asexual gay guys on the market. Highly recommend it!

Frustrating.

For the most part, I've loved Annabeth Albert's Out of Uniform series, but this book sticks out in a bad way for me. The lack of communication between these men was a constant irritant. There were plenty of outside factors to keep the story going on its own, so the added dramatic effect of these two at odds only served to make me frustrated with them.
