Publisher's Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Set before the events of
Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, this new novel is a thrilling follow-up to Star Wars: Darth Plagueis.

It's kill or be killed in the space penitentiary that houses the galaxy’s worst criminals, where convicts face off in gladiatorial combat while an underworld gambling empire reaps the profits of the illicit blood sport. But the newest contender in this savage arena, as demonic to behold as he is deadly to challenge, is fighting for more than just survival. His do-or-die mission, for the dark masters he serves, is to capture the ultimate weapon: an object that will enable the Sith to conquer the galaxy.

Sith lords Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious are determined to possess the prize. And one of the power-hungry duo has his own treacherous plans for it. But first, their fearsome apprentice must take on a bloodthirsty prison warden, a cannibal gang, cutthroat crime lord Jabba the Hutt, and an unspeakable alien horror. No one else could brave such a gauntlet of death and live. But no one else is the dreaded dark-side disciple known as Darth Maul.

Praise for Lockdown

“Schreiber . . . was a great choice for this novel, imbuing the story with a dark, foreboding tone while never quite stepping into the horror territories that Death Troopers and Red Harvest took us.”Jedi News

“Fans of the dark side should rejoice. Lockdown delivers a can’t-put-this-down tale of scum and villainy.”Club Jade

“[Lockdown is] an action-packed ride that spins one entertaining chapter after another. The multiple layers of story keeps readers guessing what will happen next and just who will live and who will die. . . . It certainly adds to the character of Darth Maul while matching [Darth] Plagueis’s complexity with sheer fun. . . . Five out of five metal bikinis.”Roqoo Depot

“Somehow, Schreiber is able to skate the line between hard-hitting prison story and the adventure and excitement I love from Star Wars in a way that doesn’t betray either genre. It’s really quite masterful.”Big Shiny Robot

Lockdown is an exciting, engaging read. . . . It actually lines up beautifully for a sequel, which I, for one, would love to read.”Coffee with Kenobi

“The novel makes The Clone Wars better. It also illuminates The Phantom Menace. I think it’s the hallmark of the best tie-in fiction to resonate throughout other parts of the expanded universe in that way.”Knights’ Archive

“By the fiftieth page, I was hooked. . . . Lockdown is a wonderful ‘antihero’ novel, where it’s just fine to root for the villain, because there are even worse things out there. This book was so fun and entertaining. I’ll have to keep an eye out for more Star Wars books from Schreiber.”Seattle Geekly

This is a great book.

I really liked the storyline of this book. The mystery was not easy to solve. The layers that Maul uncovered was impressive. I will be listening to this one again soon. there was so much going on im sure I will pick up even more details next go around.

Cool Story

I really enjoyed the voice acting and all the sound effects that were in this story. I really wish most audio books would do this to liven up the story, but anyways, awesome book if your a star wars fan.

Fantastic

I was truly captivated by this book from the moment I started listening. Darth Maul has always been an interesting character to me, and this story certainly builds my "respect" for him. I would recommend this book to any mature star wars fan!

Horror theme in some parts which was welcome

some scary horror is something to expect when reading Joe Schreibers star wars books, It did not dive into the intense horror of death troopers or red harvest but there where parts where I was feeling legidimately frightend. Overall I enjoyed this book and I thought maul was the perfect choice for a setting such as this. So much creativity was put to work here and I recommend for any star wars fan especially who like clone wars or sith stories!

Near Flawlesz

Does this book have problems? yeah, one in particular. There are some parts of the story that feel way too slow... but the performance was masterful. sideous actually feeling nervous, getting details on Darth Plagueis, seeing Maul actually having to prove himself to his master, and seeing how even without using the dark side or his lightsaber staff, how vicious and downright brutal Maul really is... and how cold and uncaring he is. having read this book right after ahsoka, the immense difference between those two books was clear as day. And this book did an expert job at the performance with these characters. Maul and Jabba the Hutt specifically were highlights in the performance

The best Legends novel I've read yet!

I had my doubts that a Star Wars Nobel based around the Prequels could be good, but this tale was exceptional! Using the classic plot of pitting dangerous criminals against each other, Maul: Lockdown combines rich characters, unbelievable action, and a story that really doesn't require anyone to have seen the films to enjoy. The narrator Jonathan Davis has a fantastic range of character voices, and does a great job bringing everyone to life while being an eloquent narrator. My only gripe with the story is the lackluster, final reveal of weaponer Iram Radique (trying to avoid spoilers), and my least favorite part about the production is that it was often hard to hear Davis over the added SFX and music. All in all, Joe Scheiber sets himself apart even from guys like Timothy Zhan with a radically different approach to delivering a dynamite Star Wars epic.

Okay

The story started out with an interesting preface, but ultimately failed to deliver. I expected more from something that was suggested to be a great follow up to ‘Plagueis’ which was a fantastic book. I don’t recommend this title.
