About this listen

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER You are cordially invited to the wedding of Princess Leia Organa and Han Solo.

The Death Star is destroyed. Darth Vader is dead. The Empire is desolate. But on the forest moon of Endor, among the chaos of a changing galaxy, time stands still for a princess and her scoundrel.

After being frozen in carbonite, then risking everything for the Rebellion, Han is eager to stop living his life for other people. He and Leia have earned their future together, a thousand times over. And when he proposes to Leia, it’s the first time in a long time he’s had a good feeling about this. For Leia, a lifetime of fighting doesn’t seem truly over. There is work still to do, penance to pay for the dark secret that she now knows runs through her veins. Her brother, Luke, is offering her that chance—one that comes with family and the promise of the Force. But when Han asks her to marry him, Leia finds her answer immediately on her lips . . . Yes.

Yet happily ever after doesn’t come easily. As soon as Han and Leia depart their idyllic ceremony for their honeymoon, they find themselves on the grandest and most glamorous stage of all: the Halcyon, a luxury vessel on a very public journey to the most wondrous worlds in the galaxy. Their marriage, and the peace and prosperity it represents, are a lightning rod for all—including Imperial remnants still clinging to power.

Facing their most desperate hour, the soldiers of the Empire have dispersed across the galaxy, retrenching on isolated planets vulnerable to their influence. As the Halcyon travels from world to world, one thing becomes abundantly clear: The war is not over. But as danger draws closer, Han and Leia find that they fight their best battles not alone, but as husband and wife.

Fun!

It was fun and very Han and Laia. The man does a great job sounding like Han.

A story about Han and Leia, naturally ebbing and flowing between a classic Star Wars adventure and a romance

Performances were brilliant, both readers in TOP form, especially in the final chapter. A great read that brings a little much-needed nuance to something that's glossed over in the films

Not my favourite

Not my favourite Star Wars book I’ve listened to but I still really enjoyed it. Especially since Leia has always been one of my favourite characters. Also, Marc Thompson does an incredible Han voice!

Wonderful

I was looking into trying a more romance style story & this was interesting because it focussed more on the afterwards idea. After the couple finally got together, what then? It was really fun listening to the back & forth of the two actors & I really enjoyed the last chapter! 😃

A Huge Disappointment and a Book That Goes Nowhere

I was stoked for the release of this book. I'm an old school Star Wars fan who saw Episodes IV-V-VI in theatres back when they were initially released. I should've known this book would be just as disappointing as the vast majority of modern-day SW books. Save for "Brotherhood" which was quite good, the other one I was looking forward to this year was so terrible that I couldn't bring myself to finish it: "Shadow of the Sith". That book tricked us into buying a book for a Luke and Lando story when they were barely in it and focused mostly on Rey's past and was a complete bore.

Much is the same with Beth Revis' new novel. Take a wonderful premise and stretch it on for 12 hrs and 45 mins where nothing interesting happens for three quarters of the book. It's only in the last three hours that things pick up a bit and even then, it's nothing worthy of the promise of this book. Leia's characterization, both written and narrated by Saskia Maarleveld who doesn't make it feel like it's the Leia we love that we're reading about (or Marc Thompson's awful attempt at sounding like a woman while reading Leia). This is a novel for which I would've gladly preferred to have a 3 or 4-hour abridged version, it might have helped make it more enjoyable. I could go on and on with some of the issues I have with "The Princess and the Scoundrel", but I don't wanna waste my time (and yours). The only good thing about this book is the gorgeous cover art. Do yourself a favor and spend your credit elsewhere, you'll be glad you did. As for me, I am officially done with Star Wars books for good. Too many credits wasted or that I had to return as 4 out of 5 Star Wars books in this Disney era are huge letdowns.

Absolutely DREADFUL!!

I am a huge Star Wars fan who has read many SW novels and audiobooks and this easily takes the cake for being the worst. The story will put you to sleep because there isn't anything remotely interesting. I got to chapter 19 and that's all I could handle. Move along now, move along...

Worst Star Wars book

Disney has tried covering this book from what it actually is: a promotional advertisement for its new star cruiser hotel. I honestly think the blatant advertising for its hotel throughout this book has actually made me less likely to ever stay there. It reads like a travel brochure. Disney would’ve done better to offer this book for free if anyone expressed interest in a trip there. If they think this book will draw Star Wars fans in they have desperately misunderstood what fans actually are interested in. I keep thinking this book will get better but it never does. Like a tauntaun….it smells worse on the inside. Save your credit!
