Publisher's Summary
The crew of the Desiree was unprepared. The Simiu were unexpected...Earth's first contact with an alien race turns to disaster when a friendly encounter erupts into inexplicable violence and the threat of interstellar war. But two ordinary individuals - Mahree Burroughs, an ordinary woman with a gift for friendship, and Dhurrrkk', a male Simiu with boundless curiosity - have forged a bond of understanding that bridges their many differences. Along with a reluctant Robert Gable, brilliant young ship's physician, they make an astounding journey across the stars, to seek a way to save the future of both species!

Over long but good tale
Crispin had constructed a good story, however, needed 2 hours less story-too detailed and overwritten. Also, please raise the age of the heroine from 16/17 to fully 18 and it would be more appropriate for her to have a 24 year old lover.

Sophomoric
This book comes across as a hybrid of a "Coming Of Age" story (for 16-year-old 'Mahree Burroughs') set in the remote future - and an 'Enemy Mine'-styled "Individual Friendship In The Midst Of Battling Interstellar Species" tale. Author A.C.Crispin fashions a plausible thought-provoking conflict between two species with differing concepts of "honor" (that reminded me of several 'Star Trek' plots) and an introduction of a "Federation Of Planets" of sorts - but wastes an opportunity to develop a captivating story by using teenagers to act as the "voice of reason" and including emotional crushes/yearnings and contrived love triangles for some reason.
The childlike narration from Romy Nordlinger contributes to my "immature" impression of the book, too. Yes, she captures the author's intended tone nicely.. but her timbre/cadence sounds juvenile and is matched with character voice choices that sound like something out of an Anime. Furthermore, Audible Studios Inc. sound engineers are uncharacteristically lazy on this project (matching spliced segments poorly and leaving Nordlinger's occasional sharp intakes of breath untouched, for example). The listening experience is not good.
Altogether, this recording of 'StarBridge' merits 3/10-stars. As I was able to get it as a 'Plus' selection, it was merely a waste of time.. but when they ask for a Credit - you'll be wasting that, too.
