For the first time in unabridged audio!

A small Kansas town has turned into a killing ground. Is it a serial killer, a man with the need to destroy? Or is it a darker force, a curse upon the land? Amid golden cornfields, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers evil in the blood of America's heart.

What the critics say

"As usual, Preston and Child deftly mix the real and the surreal, creating an atmosphere in which everything, for reasons we can't quite nail down, seems a tad off-kilter. Call it creeping paranoia, perhaps, or the dreadful certainty that something awful is about to happen. Whatever you call it, it's a recipe for success." ( Booklist)

Essential story in the Pendergast line

This novel introduced us to Corey do I consider it foundational to later books in Pendetgast and Nora Kelly series. Aside from that it is a great tale with the expected great narration. It is one of my favourites in the series and it tells a complete story with a satisfying conclusion, ie no hanging plot lines or cliff hanger ending. There is a definite horror element but nothing that will offend Preston readers or shock fans of the series:)

An Entertaining Listen!

Not the best Pendergast novel, the denouement falls a bit short, but it’s a grand old time and the reader has a good handle on the characters.

Creepy and interesting listen

Once again, Preston and Child have provided us with a blend of history and facinating story telling with enough macabre twists to keep us all wonderiing: whodunit????
