Publisher's Summary
I fell in love with Manda Baker eight years ago, and I loved her to the core of her soul. We were supposed to have that elusive happily ever after and spend a lifetime together. But that was all before she was stolen from me. Her best friend, Sarah Erickson, killed her. It wasn't intentional. It was far worse. Everyone claims it was just an accident, but I can see through the lies. Even if it's with my dying breath, I will make her pay for what she did. Fate hates me. It robbed me of my first love and left me to navigate through this world emotionless and numb. Then, one day, spiteful fate gave me a woman to fill my shattered soul and make me feel again. It gave me Emma Jane Erickson. Now I spend my days searching for the answers that will ruin Sarah and my nights falling in love with her sister - the one person who is bound and determined to save her. But what happens when everything you know to be true explodes around you?

Wasn’t my fave book in the series
Didn’t feel the connection between Calen and Emma. Their story was rushed, didn’t feel like they had a connection, but out of the blue they were “it” for each other.

I devoured this book. The story and the performances from the voice actors were perfection. Both VA immersed me into this world. The story starts with 2 couples who are also best friends. One night, the ladies decide to get in a car and drive home after a few drinks, but they end up in an accident. The story then follows one of the couples, Brett and Sarah. It talks about hard topics like suicide, acquired brain injuries, mourning, and moving on. 4 years later, we are under the impression that Brett's wife Sarah had died, and he never moved on or had been with anyone else since. Brett becomes obsessed with a waitress named Jesse. Turns out sarah didn't died, she was affected by the accident, but no one knows how severe it is until you get quite into the book. This was a quick and super fast-paced read. It was frustrating at times because Jesse would make so many assumptions about Brett without letting him explain - I wanted to reach through my phone and yell at this girl, lol. The way Brett is written, jeez. He's a detective, tall, like really tall, muscular, and just a gentleman in all the ways that count 😏. The next book is around the second couple, and I'm very much looking forward to Caleb's story.
