Publisher's Summary

Winner of the Readers' Choice Poll.

Hell has come to Hydra Cordatus. A massive force of terrifying Iron Warriors have invaded the planet and laid siege to its mighty Imperial citadel. Can the defenders hold out? And just what do these ancient traitors want with such a seemingly insignificant world?

Listen to it because....

It's one of the true Black Library classics, and one of the first novels to make the bad guys the heroes...and it introduced the mighty Warsmith Honsou, who went on to plague the Ultramarines across plenty of novels. It also pits the Iron Warriors against their oldest foes, the Imperial Fists, which is always a guarantee of quality action.

The story:

On the nightmare battlefields of the far future, few foes spark more fear and dread than the Chaos Space Marines. Nurturing a hatred that is millennia-old, they attack without mercy, spreading terror and destruction in their wake. Now hell has come to Hydra Cordatus, for a massive force of terrifying Iron Warriors, the brutal assault masters of Chaos, have invaded the planet and lain siege to its mighty Imperial citadel. But what prize could possibly be worth so much savage bloodshed and destruction—and how long can the defenders possibly hold out?

Written by Graham McNeill. Narrated by Michael Geary. Approximate running time 11 hours and 4 minutes.

A great culmination of warriors present at the siege of terra. Their stories told 10,000 years later

This is the book that got me into 40k many years ago. To return to it in audiobook for was amazing and nostalgic. It is well narrated and leaves me wanting more in this writing style. Visceral, tragic and completely entertaining. This book is a must read for any fans of Iron warriors, Imperial Fists or the damn brave Imperial Guard.

Iron within, Iron without

A tier writer. S tier is only for ADB and Abnett.

This is an amazing hectic war with Iron Warriors, Guardsmen, and Imperial Fists. What else could you want (outside of fascinating ADB dialogue maybe)?

Loved it.

Finally a 40k book with actual war. I hate it when a book is supposed to be about a brutal battle and ends up being mostly talking and lore building. This book had all the action one would expect from a 40k book between two hated legions and the side stories didn't distract from the main plot. Well written, well done.

War is Hell.

Now THAT was a helluva rush. Fans of military tactics, battlefield heroics, and detailed descriptions of how the human body can explode in various ways should love this. Narrative was smooth and engaging.

Iron Within, Iron Without!

Brutal and Effective. The Legion that carried the Heresy on its back shows why they are demanding of respect and fear. The seige breaking and attrition style of warfare is on full display and life is truly hell for the imperial forces that have to face off against them. Iron warrior fans rejoice

A must for any fan of the Iron Warriors!

If you like siege warfare then this is the story for you. It jumps between Chaos and Imperial perspectives. Really great representation of actual Warhammer units.

Couldn’t stop listening to this audiobook

I hesitated to buy this at first but I’m glad I did. Enjoyed it from start to finish. Sad when it ended. Couldn’t put this one down. Thank you Graham McNeill for the wonderful storyline, plot development and characters. Thank you Michael Geary for a great narration and voices for the characters. Onto the Omnibus I guess :)

it's just fighting

cool book for people who want to see how the iron warrior siege, but there's almost no lore. it's 95% war... also why are the Iron Warriors such fans of chaos? goes against everything Perturbo stands for... The VA isn't bad, but I feel like the IW were way too American.
