About this listen
In the modern world, qi is money.
The days of traveling martial artists and mountaintop masters are over. Power is controlled by corporations, modernized martial arts sects, and governments. Those at the bottom of society struggle as second class citizens in a world in which power is a commodity.
Rick is a young fighter in this world. He doesn't dream of immortality or becoming the strongest, just of building a better life for himself and his sister, who suffers from a spiritual illness. Unfortunately, life isn't that easy....

Hard luck cultivation
I liked it. The MC does have a raw deal, but perseveres through it. In the midst of modernized cultivation based fighting, the realistic struggles of the MC gave the character depth and had me in his corner, cheering him on throughout the entire story.

I loved all three books!
The writing felt a bit stale early on, but I was hooked on the premise. The world building is truly fantastic, and the main characters perspective drives the point home.
The writing quality improves quickly, and each book gets better. I loved the series and would jump at a chance to revisit this world.
The narrator is fantastic. He makes it easy to recognize characters just by the voice.

From a litrpg perspective, it's not great.
The system is confusing, the author tried to draw a parallel between real world economics and a system based on strength but it makes little sense and feels gimmicky and forced. I tried googling it but everyone seems pretty confused too, so I end up just phasing out the system as it doesn't actually add much to the story.
The world building is just an afterthought, you don't know why anything works the way it does.
The main character talks very intelligently but is pretty clueless about everything in the world. It feels disconnected.
Fights and skills are not interesting either.
The narrator is great except for the little sister who sounds older than the big brother.
