About this listen
Tragedy has forced 16-year-old Victor Frankenstein to swear off alchemy forever. He burns the Dark Library. He vows he will never dabble in the dark sciences again — just as he vows he will no longer covet Elizabeth, his brother’s betrothed.
If only these things were not so tempting.
When he and Elizabeth discover a portal into the spirit world, they cannot resist. Together with Victor’s twin, Konrad, and their friend Henry, they venture into a place of infinite possibilities where power and passion reign. But as they search for the knowledge to raise the dead, they unknowingly unlock a darkness from which they may never return.

Good for the right demographic, but not great
So I picked up this title as soon as I got audible. I read the first novel in this series, "This Dark Endeavor," probably around 5-6 years ago and at that time I was in my early to mid teens. I picked up the sequel shortly after but couldn't find myself the time to actually sit down and read it, as I never really have been the "reading for fun" type of person. Then here comes audible.
It became difficult to be intertwined with this story, even after loving the previous book. The narration and style was good enough to say the least, but I found it becoming monotonous and monotone as I reached the 5-6 hour mark.
The story itself was bland at best, but it did a good job as to keep the reader entertained. There's no crazy twists or turns and nothing really to keep you on the edge of your seat, bu i's unique to say the least.
The real issue, and where my ratings truly came from, was the tone. This book seemed like it didn't know what it wanted to be. It kept trying to act like a grim adult fantasy novel but it was overflowing with teen angst and "edgyness," and needless to say, those two don't mix.
My words probably come out harsher than I intend. I just wanted to leave an honest review. The book was worth the buy, the narrator kept me entertained, and I listened to it in it's entirety (I did in less than a week too actually). So if you're thinking of trying it, I'd say go for it! Just don't expect any Fight Club twists or Game of Thrones immersion.
