IMO Not as good as the first one

The structure of this book just felt off to me.

The first half of the book felt like it spent too much time meandering , Lots of talk about powers, and getting powers, and where they come from, but not much real plot development. There's the occasional bit of action thrown in to try and spice things up but they don't really lead anywhere.

The last reasonably long chapter has nothing to do with the rest of the book - I'm guessing it's going to be relevant in the third book but was put at the end of this one instead of the beginning of the next to extend this one's length. Feels very out of place.

And the parts in between... just never really came together for me. The 'climax' especially kind of comes out of nowhere and doesn't bring any sense of resolution or accomplishment.

Overall I was disappointed - the first book was a much more enjoyable read.

RC Bray of course does an outstanding job and is a pleasure to listen to as usual.
