About this listen

One of the most famous science books of our time, the phenomenal national bestseller that “buzzes with energy, anecdote and life. It almost makes you want to become a physicist” (Science Digest).

Richard Feynman, one of the world’s greatest theoretical physicists, thrived on adventure. His outrageous exploits once shocked a Princeton dean’s wife to exclaim: “Surely you’re joking, Mr. Feynman!”

In this phenomenal national bestseller, the Nobel Prize–winning physicist recounts in his inimitable voice his experiences trading ideas on atomic physics with Einstein and Bohr and ideas on gambling with Nick the Greek, painting a naked female toreador, accompanying a ballet on his bongo drums, and much else of an eyebrow-raising and hilarious nature. Woven together with his views on science, Feynman’s life story is a combustible mixture of high intelligence, unlimited curiosity, eternal skepticism, and raging chutzpah.

What the critics say

"A chain reaction is not a bad analogy for Feynman's life. From a critical mass of gray matter it goes off in all directions, producing both heat and light." (Time)

Very enjoyable read!

This book gave me a good idea of how Mr. Feynman thinks, and it’s quite logical, humourous, and thoroughly enjoyable. Not recommend for those who don’t use logic.

a great narrative

Loved it. The narrator really played his role perfectly as if Mr. Feynman was speaking.

Curiosity unleashed

It is amazing what happens to the human spirit when it is not denied the curiosity it is born with. Feynman went wherever his mind took him. An intriguing man, a full life and story without parallel.

great book

I loved the book, the narrator was slightly monotonous, took a few chapters to get used to.

Very Good

i thought this was going to be a science book, anf it was. However the storyline was very well done and manages to get away from the science a good amount a talk about other entertaining aspects of his life

Not for children

Sadly the inclusion of some of the authors adult habits makes this unsuitable for children.

A well written book from one of my few role models

I loved the book and all the insights into the life of Richard P Feynman. There were a few good laughs and some good content about thinking critical, a skill most people no longer posses in the modern world. It would of been so great to meet this man, or even attend some of his lectures.

Wish there were more books like this

Few people can find the balance between professionalism and goofiness. The goofier you want to be the more you need to make up for it with excellence in work. Few want to walk that line and fewer have the storytelling skills to write about it later.

Listened to this a couple years ago and every time I reload Audible I hope to find something similar.
