About this listen
Born in the storm that doomed his father, Connavar grows to manhood among the mist-covered mountains of Caer Druagh, where the Rigante tribe dwell in harmony with the land and its gods. But beyond the border, across the water, an evil force is gathering strength, an unstoppable force that will change the world beyond all recognition. Haunted by malevolent spirits and hunted by evil men, Connavar sets out on a spectacular mission to save his people.
From the master of the genre, this is a tale of love and honour, friendship and courage, as Gemmell explores the intriguing worlds of Celtic myth and earth magic.

Great story, wrong choice of narrator
As far as the book itself goes, this is a wonderful story! I am certainly biased as it is set within my favorite point in history and is exactly the kind of story I enjoy, playing with the exact kind of themes I appreciate. The prose is plain and simple, but in a way that couldn’t possibly be done better! It’s not overly fancy or unnecessarily descriptive, it cuts to the chase and delivers exactly what is needed - no more, no less.
That said, I think the narrator was not the right choice for this particular story. Don’t get me wrong , her performance was excellent, but I personally found her voice pulling me out of the story from time to time with certain characters. I have no doubt she is an absolutely unbeatable narrator for other stories, but as far as I’m concerned, I think this was just not the right story for her. I didn’t let that stop me from thoroughly enjoying it though, nor should you!

Fantastic story, bizarre narrative performance.
I read this book years ago, absolutely loved it, and was looking forward to hearing the audiobook to take me back to the incredible world and characters of David Gemmell. As much as I love the story itself, I cannot recommend this audiobook. Adjoah Andoh's performance for the female characters in the story is fine, no issues there, but her delivery for almost every male character is a bafflingly bizarre nasal, robotic and tonally confused delivery with a jarringly jilted cadence. I've never heard anything quite like it. It's extremely unpleasant to listen to and has managed to continually pull me out of the story. Puzzling and very disappointing :(

Good book, wrong choice for narrator
The Rigante series, specifically, Sword in the Storm. Is what made me a fan of David Gemmell...I mean no disrespect to Adjoa Andoh, but Sean Barrett narrates the Drenai series; and I, by far, prefer listening to those books.
