About this listen

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself.

That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth.

Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet.

War has raged ever since.

None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous. He mostly kept to himself. He was the weird guy who owned a cabin and who occasionally came into town for a drink and light conversation. After System Integration, that didn’t change much—he only got stronger.

After years of fighting monsters and Invaders alone, he’s become quite adept at surviving. Who needs others to get in the way or worry about?

Until one day, Derek goes against his better judgement. He decides to lend some help on a mission that doesn’t seem too hard.... He should have stuck to being alone....

Don’t miss the start of this new LitRPG series starting on Earth a few years post System Integration. But the adventure doesn’t stop there. This overpowered protagonist will quickly find himself on a new world, with a new System, providing a unique combination of the isekai, LitRPG apocalypse, and slice-of-life genres. He may even make a few friends along the way.

Loved it

The narrator puts emphasis in weird spots sometimes. Overall I loved the story it was very funny and a pleasant read. I found it did overuse the word “shit” a lot to swear which did get a bit annoying. I look forward to the next book the epilogue left it at an exciting place.

good narrator and good story

I've been a long time reader of this series on Royal road and am happy such a good narrator was chosen for this book.

Flawless! I loved it.

I’ll be honest. I loved it. I’ve always loved OP MCs and there are so many good story’s but it takes a few books for the MC to become OP. This is just great. Just like skipping dinner and going right to dessert. Only flaw in the book I see personally is his choice of apprentice. But it is only book one and it could be totally fine and have some great development. I can’t wait for the next one. Please keep ‘em coming. The voice actor is awesome :)

AMAZING, funny, light hearted

There are a lot of bad review on .com, but none on.ca so far XD. I really enjoyed the book, I think some people can't read or the description was not distinct enough, The book is not "zero to hero" and not epic fantasy/adventure. So if you expect to see big progression with a endless quest to save the world or really purpose and clear quest, don't buy wrong type of book.

The story:
The book start with the MC being somewhat OP on earth before getting stuck between world, once he exist, decade later, he found himself not on earth anymore. That's like the first hours of the book then the real story begin, a fun SLICE-OF-LIFE with an OP MC, so if you don,t know what slice-of-life is go check it out before buying and leaving a bad review.

LITRPG:
There aren t long stat sheet every 2chapters so that's a big +, there are some skills choosing and other litrpg stuff.

The mc
Like i said, he start OP and doesn't have a hero complex, some ppl might see that as selfish. He can be a ass/insensitive some time.

Unique and interesting beginning - narration is…busy

Interesting story. I liked the unconventional beginning which created a cool growth path for the main character. The dialogue feels pretty basic and sometimes the main character comes off a odd and strangely stingy, though that’s just my opinion.

The narrator is obviously skilled however there is a sing-song quality to his phrasing which results in emphasis being put on odd words or too much uptalk, I find when all lines are delivered in such a lilty, sing-song way, it really takes away from the seriousness of the tone and causes the main character to sound, at times, strange or frivolous. The book should have a rhythm the reader can get into but sing songy reading forces the listener into a rhythm that is at times in contrast with what’s actually happening. I know this sounds like a lot of criticism but a narrators voice shouldn’t be bouncing up and down so much that it changes the feel the author is trying to impart. For sure a narrator has to make such choices in their delivery but if this can be reduced it would help greatly. Other than those points he clearly has nice tonal quality and otherwise a good way about him. Just some tweaks will make this easier to listen to.

Narrator's voice very whiny

Enjoyable story marred by Narrator's voice being whiny and nasaly when reading the kids and women's voices

Meh

As someone who has spent much time and many credits the last year listening to litrpgs, this one stands out for being as mediocre as they get. Great that the author wrote a book, which is an amazing accomplishment any way you look at it. Unfortunate that it was narrated. This might be one of those books that’s easily enjoyed when read, not listened to. It’s competently written, but for whatever reason doesn’t find any meaningful traction when you listen to it. If you have an Unlimited membership, head there and give it a read. It might be worth book two that way.
