About this listen
Cold cases, murder, lies, and an unimaginable truth.
Sydney Detective August Shaw has spent the last decade of work solving cold cases. His work is his entire life, and he's convinced a string of unsolved cold-case suicides are linked to what could be Australia's worst ever serial killer. Problem is, no one believes him.
Senior Constable Jacob Porter loves his life in the small town of Tallowwood in northern New South Wales. He runs summer camps for the local Indigenous kids, plays rugby with his mates, has a close family, and he's the local LGBTQIA+ Liaison and the Indigenous Liaison Officer.
When human remains are found in the camping grounds at Tallowwood Reserve, Jake's new case turns out to be linked to August's cold cases, and Jake agrees they're not suicides at all. With Jacob now firmly in August's corner, they face one hurdle after another. Even when more remains are found, they can't seem to gain ground. But when the body of a fellow police officer turns up under the same MO, it can't be ignored anymore.
August and Jake must trace the untraceable before the killer takes his next victim or before he stops one of them, permanently.
Contains mature themes.

stunning high angst performance

Narrator Antony Ferguson gave a stunning high angst performance. I loved his accent which was fitting for the Australian location where the story played out. His reading was fresh and easy to follow. He was able to give each character a distinguishable voice and keep my attention on the plot.
Detective August from Sydney has been investigating a string of murders. For years he was sure they are all connected. Until he gets a call from a constable from a small town who found some dead bodies and who suspect they might all be connected.
The whole plot was laid out perfectly and listeners will enjoy unraveling the mystery by finally revealing the murderer. The character building was beautifully done making me appreciate the circumference of it all.
I absolutely recommend this audiobook, it has mystery, beauty and love. It is definitely a red wine and cheese kind of audiobook.

Good story
the story and mystery were great but I found the narration at times stilted and which took away from the romance.

Loved it!
I loved it! I liked the narrator & enjoyed the “who done it” with the love story being the secondary aspect.

Wonderful narration
Tightly written plot, great characters, lots of twists and turns. Compassionate to victims and families of hate crimes.

Emotionless
This book was a both frustrating and...well, frustrating. The case was exciting enough; I wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen, even though I (partially) knew who the killer was. What I found so disappointing was the romance aspect of the novel. There didn't seem to be very much chemistry between the heroes, and the intimacy was sub-par. It's worthy of reading just for the mystery, though.
The narration was more emotionless than the writing. It sounded like he was announcing the news, to be honest. Not my favourite.
