About this listen

"How did it all begin?" "What happens when we die?" These are just two of the questions Reverend Oliver "Buzz" Thomas hears centrist Christians asking as he travels across the United States, and he knows that their voices are not being heard. They're people of faith, not of politics, and they want more from their religion than a voter's guide.

Now, Reverend Thomas has written a book that will become the liberal Christian answer to The Purpose Driven Life. Thomas writes sensitively about the reason we were put on this earth, the significance of the Bible, and how one pleases God. He answers difficult, contemporary questions like "What about homosexuality?" and "What about other faiths?" while weaving in a sensible Christian theology for modern living.

What the critics say

"Thomas's writing is clear and engaging....[He] argues against many conservative interpretations of biblical texts and sides with those who understand them as written by humans in a particular time and context far removed from the 21st century." (Publishers Weekly)

great read

if you can accept that the religion you follow may not be correct and do not take offense to other opinions, you will likely make it through this book unoffended. the title is accurate, most Christians never learn or care to learn this stuff and the religious communities we grow in really only offer one view of Christianity and other religions. I love that in this book we could bypass bias and get to the reality of Christianity and its message. something that was said that I agree with is that religion is what we do; I will add that faith is what we believe in. definitely recommend; it's always good to test your ideas .

misinterpretation of scripture. It made my stomach crawl

misinterpretation of scripture. The false notion that creation of women after men was meant to subdue women and keep them in their place. God created us for different purposes, yet we are equal. I couldn't even finish the first chapter without stopping it.
