Publisher's Summary

Part memoir and part philosophical look at why we travel, filled with stories of Matt Kepnes' adventures abroad, an exploration of wanderlust and what it truly means to be a nomad.

"Matt is possibly the most well-traveled person I know...His knowledge and passion for understanding the world is unrivaled, and never fails to amaze me." --Mark Manson, New York Times bestselling author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

Ten Years a Nomad is New York Times bestselling author Matt Kepnes’ poignant exploration of wanderlust and what it truly means to be a nomad. Part travel memoir and part philosophical look at why we travel, it is filled with aspirational stories of Kepnes' many adventures.

New York Times bestselling author of How to Travel the World on $50 a Day, Matthew Kepnes knows what it feels like to get the travel bug. After meeting some travelers on a trip to Thailand in 2005, he realized that living life meant more than simply meeting society's traditional milestones, such as buying a car, paying a mortgage, and moving up the career ladder. Inspired by them, he set off for a year-long trip around the world before he started his career. He finally came home after ten years. Over 500,000 miles, 1,000 hostels, and 90 different countries later, Matt has compiled his favorite stories, experiences, and insights into this travel manifesto. Filled with the color and perspective that only hindsight and self-reflection can offer, these stories get to the real questions at the heart of wanderlust. Travel questions that transcend the basic "how-to," and plumb the depths of what drives us to travel - and what extended travel around the world can teach us about life, ourselves, and our place in the world.

Ten Years a Nomad is for travel junkies, the travel-curious, and anyone interested in what you can learn about the world when you don’t have a cable bill for a decade or spend a month not wearing shoes living on the beach in Thailand.

Travelling is like life, or rather is part of it.

I listones to maybe get some insight on the constant tussle between staying put on the farm vs travelling. I did get some of this at the end of the book. Interesting read even though I didn’t have the same reasons for travelling as he did. Good for anyone who likes to travel, but for some it maybe too familiar already. Good presentation and easy to listen to.

Wonder about the road less travelled?

This book is for anyone dreaming about dumping the white picket fence life. Loved his writing style. Interesting and frank read about the pluses and minuses and psychology of being on the road long term. Easy and absorbing to listen.

Lost me, but glad I came back to it

I was trying to listen to this on a road trip and stopped as he jumped from one experience to the next earlier on in his travels. So glad I came back though. I really enjoyed the insights of travel relationships and the pull of wanting to take up roots fighting against the pull of travel.
It’s an interesting experience and one that has become the norm to try and emulate. Happy trails

A journey

Easy to binge listen to. The storytelling entraps you in Matt’s world and leads to many different emotions. The first part is the best, the second part is more about his struggles and not as fun, but it helps to bring a better perspective to travel.

Overall I’d definitely recommend

A very captivating story

To be completely honest, as a traveller myself, Matthew’s story help me to find words that describe the way I was feeling in my travelling journey. It is very well written, well explained and very captivating. Thank you for writing your story, Matthiew!

Authenticité

J’ai vraiment apprécié tous les points de vue amenés par l’auteur. Les débats intérieurs, la recherche d’équilibre etc.

Ten Years a Nomad was too many years

I also have a problem with being a Nomad, so thought I would really connect with this book. While I enjoyed the first 1/3 of the book, it became very repetitive and a bit whiny. It seems that after 10 years of wandering, his main focus was drinking and seeing temples and museums and not much time spent on getting to know the real countries and people where he was travelling.
