About this listen

Private detective Adrian Elias knows what trouble looks like, and ruthless mobster and lion shifter Sage Tamir was just that, with a capital "T". On top of smelling like heaven, the man has the face of an angel, with a body made for unbridled sin. A combination Adrian finds very hard to resist.

Unfortunately, someone is trying to kill Sage, and they’re using magic to do it. Sage usually takes these types of matters into his own hands, but this time, he’s out of his league. He believes the only person who can help him is the down-on-his-luck detective. Problem is, Adrian doesn't want to take his case because he feels it may be too dangerous. Never mind the volcanic-level attraction they seem to share for each other raising the stakes. Magic and mayhem awaits.

Listener advisory: For ages 18 and older. Strong adult situations and language. A sarcastic PI and a no-nonsense mobster will keep you resisting pause way past your bedtime. Best order that pizza, because once you start this book, you won’t want to stop.

Overall OK

4 Blue Roses
3.5 to 4 Blue Flames
Narrator Keith Folz gave a 3.5 to 4-star green moss type of delivery. Damp and cold, and if you sit still long enough it will grow on you. No, that is mushrooms. I saw a movie where a creepy dude keeps people alive by intravenously delivering a mixture of glucose and anesthesia. Anyways, it was all about growing mushrooms on the body while it decomposed, keeping the body alive as long as possible so the mushrooms can thrive. Makes me think about Sleeping Beauty too. Like I said earlier this week in my slapstick review if Aurora had earbuds she would listen to this, and fall asleep for 100 years. And that is without the glucose anesthesia.

My disappointment stems from the author’s seat number one on my ranking list. If I only knew what I was in for, I would have had my vanilla cake and eat it. With sprinkles on top! I know I’m not throwing my dolls for no reason. Compared to the heavy dark and erotic audiobooks I have listened to before, by this author. This is 100% in the category of Circle of Darkness and NOT Theoden NOR The Demon Gate Series. I rest my case.

The audiobook was otherwise totally unpredictable. I couldn’t figure out in which world this played out. In the Demon Gate Series, demons would kill innocent victims to be able to cross over back to earth, and also made deals with humans for their souls. I foolishly thought I would see the Agato demons. It turns out, this is once again a whole new world, making Nicholas Bella the “creator of worlds” the absolute truth! It's overflowing with the magical and supernatural and I liked the cross-overs between the supernatural beings. No, spoilers, so I'm zipping it!
I would recommend to the NB fans to approach this audiobook with a fresh outlook and no expectations. It is not the worst audiobook I have listened to, but rather wholesome with well-rounded characters, written in an orthodox way. The author rather concentrated on the plot and characters, than the mastery of dark erotic shock therapy I came to love shamelessly. It is definitely a mix of fresh lettuce into last week’s salad.

I do recommend this audiobook, I suspect lots of opinions about it.
