About this listen
In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up.
Twenty-eight days later, the entire Lutz family fled in terror.
This is the spellbinding, best-selling, true story that gripped the nation - the story of a house possessed by evil spirits, haunted by psychic phenomena almost too terrible to describe.
Jay Anson began as a copy boy on the New York Evening Journal in 1937 and later worked in advertising and publicity. With more than 500 documentary scripts for television to his credit, he was associated with Professional Films, Inc. He died in 1980.

I experienced something paranormal while listening
The book itself was very easy to follow. I did not know this was based on a real series of events. During the time I was listening to this book, I also felt something paranormal(?). When I was sleeping, my iPad played YouTube music all by itself at around 4AM. My husband and I woke from the music it played. It could not have been anyone else because we were by ourselves and the iPad was by my nightstand. My husband doesn't know what kind of audiobook I am listening to on normal occasions but when I told him what I was reading, he advised me to stop listening to it... (However, I still finished it).

was ok
Loved the movie, book was ok. Didn't find it scary at all, kinda boring at times. You could have a great drinking game going while listening to this audio book. Everytime the narrator says "112 Ocean Avenue", take a drink. you will be on the floor drunk well before you get halfway through the story. It actually gets quite annoying hearing 112 Ocean Avenue over and over and over and over...you get the point. I am glad to have listened to this one but would never listen to it again. The narrators tone is quite dull, almost no emotion in it throughout the entire reading. I glad is was a free book in the Plus list...

As fiction, fun, as non-fiction, hilarious!
If you’ve ever wondered if the whole Amityville case was a scam, reading this will confirm it! Maybe in Cold Blood had immunized readers to questioning how authors could possibly be privy to specific dialogue (even with the cooperation of the Lutzs), but COME ON. Clearly the Lutzs got in over their heads financially. How anyone can walk away from this book not seeing that, is beyond me. But it was a fun freebie for horror fans!

Would normally never go for horror genre…
…but I really enjoy Ray Porter as a narrator so I thought I’d give it a shot. It was really enjoyable. Good story, well narrated as usual.

Entertaining
I am a believer of this sort of thing. The book was entertaining but definitely not very creepy. I will say while you listen you should play a drinking game, a shot every time he says 112 Ocean Avenue.

More a 'historical reimagaining' then 'true story'
Voice over was solid, at first seemed monotone but it did get better. Content is too convient of plot beats so I cynically disagree on the true story disclaimer. It was ok to good, listening to it was probably more interesting then reading.

I wish it would’ve read about how he killed his family. Overall I enjoyed listening to the book.
