Fifty years after The Andromeda Strain made Michael Crichton a household name—and spawned a new genre, the technothriller—the threat returns, in a gripping sequel that is terrifyingly realistic and resonant.

The Evolution is Coming.

In 1967, an extraterrestrial microbe came crashing down to Earth and nearly ended the human race. Accidental exposure to the particle—designated The Andromeda Strain—killed every resident of the town ofPiedmont, Arizona, save for an elderly man and an infant boy. Over the next five days, ateam of top scientists assigned to Project Wildfire worked valiantly to save the worldfrom an epidemic of unimaginable proportions. In the moments before a catastrophicnuclear detonation, they succeeded.

In the ensuing decades, research on the microparticle continued. And the world thought it was safe…

Deep inside Fairchild Air Force Base, Project Eternal Vigilance has continued to watch and wait for the Andromeda Strain to reappear. On the verge of being shut down, the project has registered no activity—until now. A Brazilian terrain-mapping drone has detected a bizarre anomaly of otherworldly matter in the middle of the jungle, and, worse yet, the tell-tale chemical signature of the deadly microparticle.

With this shocking discovery, the next-generation Project Wildfire is activated, and a diverse team of experts hailing from all over the world is dispatched to investigate the potentially apocalyptic threat.

But the microbe is growing—evolving. And if the Wildfire team can’t reach the quarantine zone, enter the anomaly, and figure out how to stop it, this new Andromeda Evolution will annihilate all life as we know it.

I loved the original Andromeda Strain, so was eager to read this when I saw it. While the “documentary” style narrator isn’t my favourite, I did love the story. Also loved the incorporation of true details like the storm on Saturn and possible methods of space travel. The end resolutions came in a little too neatly for my taste.

Loved the original, was eager to read this

I enjoyed this story until 70 percent with the ladder and then it goes off the rails... becomes too rediculas. As a result the whole plot falls apart and not only do I regret the last hours, the previous hours lead to nothing. Perhaps I do not know enough science, but Cryton's books are written for the general public...

Excellent until the last 2.5 hrs...

The beginning was great, then it unravelled in an incredible swirl of nonsense. I pushed through because I wanted to see how it was going to be pulled together, but it wasn't enjoyable for the last part. It was only half-way through that I realised it wasn't really a Crichton novel (perhaps the actual author's name should be the one plastered across the front in huge letters?!), but unfortunatley cou;dn't get a refund as I hadn't bought it with a credit. I didn't enojy the James Patterson collaboration set in Hawaii either, although in that case the concept was good but the writing felt shallow. Here the writing was good but the concept was so momumentally silly that it fell apart.

Started promising then took a nose dive

This is a great continuation of The Andromeda Strain story by another author 50 years after the first. It is gripping and exciting with lots of plot twists and turns. It is well worth your entertainment time and money
