Thoughtful and helpful
I would recommend this book to all new dog owners. I began listening to it before I got our GSD puppy — and completed it within a three or four listening sessions. Well read — thoughtful and practical advice. Even though we have owned dogs for many years — i realized that we weren’t always approaching dog behaviour well. I only wish I had gotten the book also as I am certain I will want to revisit certain chapters — harder to do on audio version.

Must read for all dog owners
This book should be mandatory for all new puppy owners. I’ve had dogs all my life and yet I learned so much about raising a well adjusted and behaved dog.
The narrator does an impeccable job. He keeps your attention and varies his voice to enhance the words with life as though the author were speaking to you directly. Many of the methods described to train your puppy are simpler than one would expect and it’s fascinating to learn how many of the things dog owners do, out of instinct, are actually the wrong approach and likely making the behaviour worse.
I could not more highly recommend this book.

Was the reader chewing gum?
The information is pure gold, but the reader had me grossed out. Sounds like he’s chewing gum through the entire reading. Had my stomach rolling with all the mouth noise he made.

Not up to date with best practices in dog training
As a veterinarian I am always looking for training books to recommend to owners. This is not one of them.
Some of the content goes directly against what is currently recommended as best practices for puppy training. Would not recommend to clients.

Great book but NEEDS titled chapters to be useful
I really enjoyed the book before I actually got my puppy and then found it incredibly frustrating that the audiobook only divided the book into 4 chapters which clearly doesn't reflect the actual chapters of the book. If you look at the table of contents on Amazon, the book is divided into 17 chapters so i can't figure out why on earth Audible chose to divide it into only 4? Trying to find certain chapters of the book (for example - specific training exercises, socialization, house-training, general care, etc.) is absolutely impossible so unless you have an incredible memory, good luck finding the info you need when that particular issue arises. It's really unfortunate because now that I'm so busy with my pup, audiobooks are easier to "read" but I'll have to return this book and either find one with titled chapters or buy the hardcopy.
