Publisher's Summary

A gripping adventure that takes the listener on a backpacking trip through South East Asia.

John’s trip to India starts badly when he finds himself looking at the sharp end of a knife in a train station cubicle. His life is saved by the enigmatic Rick, who persuades John to abandon his mundane plans for the future for much, much more.

Fast forward to the Thai island of Koh Pha-Ngan, where they pose as millionaire aristocrats in a hedonistic Eden of beautiful girls, free drugs, and wild beach parties. Soon pursued by the Thai Mafia, they escape to Indonesia, Australia, and Hong Kong, facing danger at every turn.

A mediocre adventure story at best

If you don't mind following a couple of guys as they get drunk, exploit women and other people along their way through South East Asia than this book is for you. I had a hard time finishing this book. I wanted to call it quits half way. I found it to hard to empathize with the main characters getting into trouble everywhere they go, I kept thinking they really deserved what they got. I felt like I was reading a memoir of a 21 year old. It seemed like half the time they were either looking for a bar or party to get drunk in, or another environment where they can find lots of prostitutes and sex. The title is misleading. As a traveler myself, I did visualize most of the exotic locations they went to as Ive been there myself, but hoping that people don't think that all backpackers travel like the way, or even want to travel, like these guys did. Overall this story was "meh". I'm really glad I got this book at a discount.

The narration was great though. The story teller used many different accents and expressed emotion is a realistic way.
