Stephanie Garber's The Ballad of Never After is the fiercely anticipated sequel to the #1 New York Times bestseller Once Upon a Broken Heart, starring Evangeline Fox and the Prince of Hearts on a new journey of magic, mystery, and heartbreak.

Not every love is meant to be.

After Jacks, the Prince of Hearts, betrays her, Evangeline Fox swears she'll never trust him again. Now that she’s discovered her own magic, Evangeline believes she can use it to restore the chance at happily ever after that Jacks stole away.

But when a new terrifying curse is revealed, Evangeline finds herself entering into a tenuous partnership with the Prince of Hearts again. Only this time, the rules have changed. Jacks isn’t the only force Evangeline needs to be wary of. In fact, he might be the only one she can trust, despite her desire to despise him.

Instead of a love spell wreaking havoc on Evangeline’s life, a murderous spell has been cast. To break it, Evangeline and Jacks will have to do battle with old friends, new foes, and a magic that plays with heads and hearts. Evangeline has always trusted her heart, but this time she’s not sure she can. . . .

the most incredible piece of art

This book was incredible, the cliffhanger might’ve killed me if I didn’t know the third book was already out. I have never felt so feral for a story or a set of characters in my life. Thank you Stephanie Garber, this was a masterpiece of literature and I am forever changed by it.

Loved the audiobook!

I enjoyed getting a better sense of the characters voices and personalities through the audiobook, the narrator was fantastic.
I read OUABH and then this book on my own, I didn’t really understand the hype of Eva/Jacks’ relationship. The single POV left me super confused on Jacks, BUT then I read the Caraval series afterwards and found it revealed quite a bit about Jacks that you don’t get in these books. Plus, you can grasp a better understanding of the first books minor characters as well.
Overall I enjoyed this series a lot more the second read, and look forward to the 3rd books release soon.

My favourite book ever but one small issue

I absolutely adore this book but the only issue I had was when I got to chapter 45 the script changed and the narrator was reading something completely different to what was in my book that I was reading when I was following along so I ended up skipping those chapters of the audio book and reading it myself.

I am shaking

I feel like my world has been upended. I was literally screaming at the end. I am so incredibly invested. I could not stop listening the moment I started it. I am listening to the next one IMMEDIATELY

Riveting!

Book 2 was much more fun to listen to! Since the author didn't need to re setup the world building, we could just jump right into the plot. I give this a 4/5 because there were some moments that I really want to shake the characters (they were being incredibly stupid) and also because I didn't feel like there was a lot of character development. They all seemed stagnant and did not learn anything or have some growth in their character.

If you've got time, listen to this book cover to cover to not forget any moments. An enjoyable experience!

Amazing!

Brilliant story of wonder and fantasy that I can't wait for the sequel. Worth the listen and keeping in the archive.

it's good but not as Caraval.

A little long at times and Evangeline is really dumb sometimes to the point it's unbelievable. Overall the book is enjoyable maybe not to listen multiple times like Caraval.

All right, colour me intrigued

After the first book I was really not expecting much from this one, but this part of the story pulls it all together.
I don’t know how exactly, but there is a serious mood shift in the writing style. Although there were still frustrating moments when Evangeline’s thoughts were too repetitive and slow, they fit better than before. The descriptions of the setting also improved a bit, especially revolving around the hollow.
The plot is exactly the kind of heart wrenching story I was hoping for. Instead of being driven by Eva’s character (which was tedious), it became something she was only one piece of - living, moving, and more complicated than before. Much less predictable, which is a massive relief. I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Magical story

Loved every bits of the story, how the author managed to wake every feeling with words is incredible, voice actor has also done a great job.

Love the story!

My only complaint is there is a sentence or more cut out at the end of chapter 43. The audiobook just stopped mid sentence. Luckily I also have a copy of the book so I could see what was cut out from the audiobook.
