Publisher's Summary

Just when he thought he was out....

Burdened by guilt over the trauma recently inflicted on his friends and colleagues, former-Detective Chief Inspector Jack Logan has spent the past nine months living in self-imposed exile.

When a mother and her young daughter are the victims of a double murder staged to look like suicide, Logan is dragged back to help hunt down and catch a brutal, calculating killer.

But the world has moved on without him. To do what needs to be done, Logan must first find his place among old friends and new enemies before the killer strikes again, and a whole Highland community tears itself apart.

Maybe early retirement wasn't such a bad idea, after all....

The Big Man Upstairs is the seventh novel in the internationally best-selling DCI Jack Logan Scottish crime fiction series, and perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, and Stuart MacBride.

great

I binged this and the previous at work tonight (in audio form) and I really enjoyed this one. It is nice to have the Mr Whisper arc finished with in the last book, clearing the way for new plots. There is definitely still fallout and repercussions (Logan once again being estranged from his daughter and ex wife) but there was a lot of growth and character development all around.
The main mystery, I think, could be summed up with "incels versus Karens with a twist". Topical , haha, but it worked. Satisfying conclusion, too.
I'm looking forward to the next book being released in audio format. They make the workday (or night, in my case) fly by.
Oh, and it was funny! Like, cover your mouth while you snort-laugh funny. Which is nice.

getting better everytime!

I wasn't sure in the beginning, there were a bit of repetitive thoughts and comments, but it quickly moved past that. It's, of course dark, being a murder book, but I laughed out loud in parts. Thanks JD Kirk for a fantastic ensemble of characters! Cheers 🍻

Amazing!!

I have just listened to the first 7 books in JD Kirk series. Yes..you read it correctly!! I was absolutely hooked almost immediately. They create gripping stories that you almost don't want to end except for the whodunnit factor that keeps you guessing until the last minute! And let me tell you about the funny, absolutely hilarious, laugh out loud discussions that take place between the officers. The narrator is really the best ever!! Amazing!! I've already been looking to see if he narrates for other writers. Okay..on to the next book and I'm going to be pretty sad when I come to the end of his series.
