About this listen
At twenty-nine, Valancy Stirling is an “old maid” trapped within the tedium and troubles of family life. She escapes by building the imaginary world of the Blue Castle.
When she is diagnosed with a serious heart ailment, Valancy realizes she has never been happy. She doesn’t want to waste what time she has left. She seizes the moment. This catalyst for change leads her on towards relationships and entanglements far beyond what she could have predicted, including with a mysterious man known as Barney Snaith.
This is one of the few works by Lucy Maud Montgomery written for adults.

Such a well written and heartwarming story!
LOVED this book! Such a heartwarming story, well written and really captures all the characters so well. The narrator sounded slightly sarcastic at times, which fit into some of the storyline so I did enjoy the narration overall once I got used to it!

Canadian story without a Canadian narrator
This story is a long time favourite of mine! to the extent that phrases from it often make their way into everyday conversation. so when I saw this offered free of charge I thought it might be fun to listen. and I enjoyed the story as much as ever. however, in spite of the mention that this is a Canadian story, effort was not made to find a Canadian narrator or at least have the narrator learn the correct Canadian pronunciation of the words roof, hooves and shone. There were though, several other words in general which were not pronounced correctly: narcissus, reticence, misanthrope, and wan. It seems more care could be put into this by the narrator herself or the sound editors. Thanks!
