Publisher's Summary
The long-awaited first book by the founder of the enormously popular Bullet Journal® organizational system.
For years Ryder Carroll tried countless organizing systems, Online and off, but none of them fit the way his mind worked. Out of sheer necessity, he developed a method called the Bullet Journal that helped him become consistently focused and effective. When he started sharing his system with friends who faced similar challenges, it went viral. Just a few years later, to his astonishment, Bullet Journaling is a global movement.
The Bullet Journal Method is about much more than organizing your notes and to-do lists. It's about what Carroll calls "intentional living": weeding out distractions and focusing your time and energy in pursuit of what's truly meaningful, in both your work and your personal life. It's about spending more time with what you care about, by working on fewer things. His new book shows you how to...
- Track the past: Using nothing more than a pen and paper, create a clear and comprehensive record of your thoughts.
- Order the present: Find daily calm by tackling your to-do list in a more mindful, systematic, and productive way.
- Design the future: Transform your vague curiosities into meaningful goals, and then break those goals into manageable action steps that lead to big change.
Carroll wrote this book for frustrated list-makers, overwhelmed multitaskers, and creatives who need some structure. Whether you've used a Bullet Journal for years or have never seen one before, The Bullet Journal Method will help you go from passenger to pilot of your own life.

In business, the right behaviors matter. But getting it right is tricky. Even when we acknowledge the need to change what we do and how we do it, life has a habit of getting in the way, upsetting even the best-laid plans. And just how do we manage those situations that can provoke even the most rational among us into behaving in ways we would rather forget?

For the first time in history, we have instantaneous access to the world’s knowledge. There has never been a better time to learn, to contribute, and to improve ourselves. Yet, rather than feeling empowered, we are often left feeling overwhelmed by this constant influx of information. The very knowledge that was supposed to set us free has instead led to the paralyzing stress of believing we’ll never know or remember enough. Now, this eye-opening and accessible guide shows how you can easily create your own personal system for knowledge management, otherwise known as a Second Brain.

Use your head. That’s what we tell ourselves when facing a tricky problem or a difficult project. But a growing body of research indicates that we’ve got it exactly backwards. What we need to do, says acclaimed science writer Annie Murphy Paul, is think outside the brain. A host of “extra-neural” resources—the feelings and movements of our bodies, the physical spaces in which we learn and work, and the minds of those around us— can help us focus more intently, comprehend more deeply, and create more imaginatively.

Most of us have heard of gluten - a protein found in wheat that causes widespread inflammation in the body. Americans spend billions of dollars on gluten-free diets in an effort to protect their health. But what if we’ve been missing the root of the problem? In The Plant Paradox, renowned cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry reveals that gluten is just one variety of a common, and highly toxic, plant-based protein called lectin.

Why do we so often seek out physical pain and emotional turmoil? We go to movies that make us cry, or scream, or gag. We poke at sores, eat spicy foods, immerse ourselves in hot baths, run marathons. Some of us even seek out pain and humiliation in sexual role-play. Where do these seemingly perverse appetites come from? Drawing on groundbreaking findings from psychology and brain science, The Sweet Spot shows how the right kind of suffering sets the stage for enhanced pleasure.

Everywhere around you are distractions: That text you respond to quickly, just to get it out of the way. The newest money-making side hustle to cross your mind. The evening spent organizing your overflowing kitchen cupboards. Disruptions are the enemies of a life well lived—both the new distractions of our generation and timeless ones that have existed for centuries. They all add up to make you feel restless, tired, and unfulfilled. They’re keeping you from living with joy, from accomplishing the good that only you can do.

Most of us still live by the motto, “No pain, no gain.” But this approach to life is actually a prescription for fear, frustration, and self-doubt. Much of what we learn about success is based on the pain/gain idea: in essence, work harder, be more persistent, and develop greater willpower. The New Psycho-Cybernetics formula is anything but painful. It will allow you to achieve all your goals, faster, easier, and with less strain than you ever thought possible.

What the critics say
“Ryder has done an extraordinary job in sharing a comprehensive and hands-on methodology to implement the powerful practice of externalizing our thinking. This book is a great treatise and manual for freeing and directing our consciousness, with lots of tips about how to play in that big and wonderful game.” (David Allen, author of Getting Things Done)
"Bullet journaling is one of the most elegant and effective productivity systems I've ever encountered. It will not only help you get more organized but will also help you become a better person. I highly recommend this book (and the method it details) for anyone looking to get more out of life." (Cal Newport, author of Deep Work)
"Whether you are an avid journaler or have always wanted to explore the benefits of journaling, The Bullet Journal Method simplifies the power of putting pen to paper and will undoubtedly transform your life, in more ways than you can imagine.” (Hal Elrod, author of The Miracle Morning)

Good audible
If like me you were not sure that a bullet journal book was a good audible and you are contemplating reading vs listening rest assured that the 60 or so pages pdf that comes with the audible makes listening to the book a perfect experience and I don’t regret listening to the book vs reading it, the author’s own voice and the pdf are a perfect combination . Now that I have the big picture I will listen again to set up my own bullet journal.

Everything you could want from this boom
I never re-read or re-listen to books, but will be listening to this again! Ryder is a down to earth guy who made this journal to combat his own struggles and consequently ended helping many others! The book is not overly filled with propaganda as many self-help books are. I felt everything in the book had purpose and stories from others actually provide insight into how BuJo helped them in unique situations (not just "I did this and it was awesome and the author is awesome!").
I was blown away by the wisdom shared on goal and life planning! If you aren't sure whether you will be a BuJo writer I still suggest listening to part 3.
I am a novice BuJo'er, but am excited to improve and really organize my life!!

The best thing to happen to me this week
Just finished listening to The Bullet Journal Method. I got way more out of it than I thought I would.
I got the book because I'd heard of the technique and was curious. With the anxiety around the current pandemic situation and more, I've been wanting to renew my habit of journaling but couldn't figure out how to work it into my routine more than I already have (through other various methods of recording my life that I would not call journaling at all). I went into it wanting to sate my curiosity, thinking that it might be a technique/book I could recommend to others struggling with sorting out their lives, such as clients or my children. Instead, I have now started journaling again, in a way I've never thought to journal before--AND I LOVE IT. I'm so thankful I got that book on a whim on sale.
I didn't think Bullet journaling would add much value over my current systems. Boy, was I wrong. It's not going to make me more organized--I've already got those systems in place and working well. But it will help me focus more on what matters most to me and give me a written record of my journey, both of which are things I value a lot.
I still hope to impart the practice to others.
I've already gotten so much out of it. I know others will, too.

Inspirational
Not only has Ryder Carroll developed a super method for anyone to keep some order and balance in their life, he is generous in sharing and supporting people to adapt and revamp the method online. This additional assistance in the form of a book and audible book has been invaluable to this "mature dawg" to learn some new and valuable new tricks. Deep bow of gratitude, Ryder.
