About this listen

Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

But on this occasion Smith has it wrong. The insurance company which will have to pay out a very substantial amount of money if Amanda Fitch obtains her certificate of presumed death has engaged Diver and Diver Associates to look into the disappearance of Gerald Fitch, more than five years ago now. As Jason Diver says, he has the very man for the job. All he has to do is to persuade that man to take it on.

Great story

I thinks this is my favourite book in the series so far. If you like DC Smith you’re going to enjoy this book. Narration is excellent as usual! Definitely worth the listen.

Another amazing novel by P.G.

I love how the author pulls threads from previous novels and in patients this one gives us glimpses of our favourites from King’s Lake. The development of Jo and DC relationship and DC’s desire to ‘know’ make this a delight to read and of course flawless narration by Gildart. I have no problem relistening to all the books in both series.

Most enjoyable does not disappoint

As always Peter Grainer spins a fun and fascinating yarn. I think we all miss times when DC Smiths honour and sense of propriety were more commonplace. Thanks for such lovely entertainment!

Another great book by Mr Grainger

A well constructed story, with lots of detail and all of the “loose ends” neatly tied up for yet another DC Smith that I will reread again. As usual, the reading was perfect, clear, well paced and totally consistent with all of the other books by Peter Grainger. I read the non-audio version in a day and the Audible book took a bit longer, but both were superb. Where next? Not too far I hope, the Norfolk towns and countryside are such a relaxing environment to stage such excellent tales.

great series

Beautifully performed, excellent story, strong character development that keeps building (I like former- DI Smith’s new career arc in casual
private eye work), light humour, darkness lurking in the background - what’s not to like?

I think this is the best DC Smith novel yet. The narrator is wonderful. I’m sorry I finished it😀

Another strong outing of DC Smith by P Grainger

DC Smith at his usual investigative prowess. Peter Grainger writes great stories and combined with the narration of Gildart Jackson they are winners in my book, no pun intended. Please sir, may I have some more?

Wonderful series

Another clever and delightful DC Smith book, beautifully narrated. Full marks in my view, from across the Atlantic.
